ED Books ...

Postby outcast-luc » Fri Sep 25, 2015 9:40 am

Hello cmdrs,

I will have to travel for work and I was wondering which book based on ED purchase from Amazon, have someone read one ?? seems like they all are unrelated so not a serial... only individual story.

Do you have an advise about it ?

thanks, fly safe cmdrs

I would suggest starting with Lave Revolution by Allen Stroud as its set in the starter system from the original game so has a bit of history behind it. its available from the FD store in Ebook format for £3.99 https://www.frontierstore.net/books.html

Next I'd go for Elite: Reclamation by Drew Wagar, Lady Kahina Loren did play a part in the games narrative via Galnet.

if you fancy a bit of a comedy Mostly Harmless is the way to go, its by Kate Russell of BBC click fame.

for pirates the book to read is John Harper's And Here the Wheel that tells of the adventures of the Garry Clan and also links into the storyline of the original game.

and of the books i've read last but not least is Out of the Darkness by T James, i won't give too much away but Thargoids ;)

I've read all the above ED books and i can recommend all of them as a good read.

Hmm...I bought one a while ago and didn't like it. Can't remember its name right now but I've read a LOT of books in my 50 years and I would swear this author hadn't written a thing in his life before. It may be sacrilege to say so, but I thought it was tripe. Something to do with some kid being born on a backwood planet and them making a fortune out of folk art statues from mud - something like that. I stuck it out then admitted to myself that it wasn't worth wearing my optic nerves out for.

Hi,

AndyB has given a good comprehensive summary right there, and they're the ones I would have mentioned having read them all.

Some I feel are better than others with Drew Wagar Elite: Reclamation being highly recommended. Very much enjoyed the tails of Commander Angel Rose in Elite: Mostly Harmless by Kate Russell.

Also worthy of a read, although not based in the current Elite galaxy is the Oolite Saga by Drew Wagar. It's a great story split over 4 books set in the Oolite Universe and a bonus is that they're Free to download from his website.

From memory the lead character in the Oolite Saga makes an appearance in Elite: Reclamation, which I thought was very well done and a nice touch.

Enjoy!

Regards & Fly Safe

Thank you for the kind words there folks, much appreciated.

It may interest you to know that some of the characters from Elite: Reclamation will shortly be back in the game as the leaders of player sponsored minor factions in the v1.4. I've taken the decision to let the fans curate the story of those characters (and it was the fans who allowed me to create them in the first place.) - all explained on my blog here > http://www.drewwagar.com/progress-repor ... ny-return/

I'm unable to write anymore official fiction at present, as FD won't/can't provide a license, but at least the characters can continue their stories.

The Children of Raxxla http://www.childrenofraxxla.com have adopted my heroine (Lady Kahina) in her guise as Salomé (you'll need to read the book for that to make sense!) They've put together some artwork and an unofficial piece of fan-fiction which takes her story on from where I left it. I thought it was a pretty good effort personally.

There are two other factions in the process of setting up as well, so there will be some continuing lore based on the events of my book. I've given my blessing to all this as I'd rather see the characters used for fun in the game rather than just stop and be forgotten.

Alas, it doesn't look like there will be any sequels at this point, so I'm working on my own SF saga > http://www.drewwagar.com/books/shadewardsaga/ which I hope will be even better than ER. First book comes out later this month at the Fantasticon event up in Hull.

All the best.

Cheers,

Drew.

I started to read the one written by Michael Brooks, forget the name. Was not too impressed. It was okay, but I didn't keep interested in it. I might try and jump back into it this weekend while up at the cabin killing time between bow hunting.

Otherwise, there is this other author, named TD BAUER (cough), that has some stuff on Amazon that has gotten some good reviews.
