Going back to Windows 7

Seems to be a bit of a misconception going on where people think they need to upgrade immediately.
You don't.

If you use your comp to make things or earn your living I would hold off at least 5 months before testing a new OS. Drivers just probably will not be ready for specialty gear some times not until after the first service pack because they won't spend money developing for a platform that will need revision quite quickly.

They just don't have sales volume to warrant constantly reworking drivers. If you where to expect this the devices would probably increase in price with at least 30-40%, that becomes a lot of money when you are working with professional camera gear.
Probably cheaper to go as it is now and simply buy a second gaming computer you can use to test the latest software on.

Last four weeks when I look at my Windows Update History I see a continuous column of Win 10 upgrade 'Failed'. Don't know why. All the drivers are up to date. My first home built rig but it's been working fine since last October.

Mobo ASUS Z87-K, CPU - Intel 4th Gen i5 4660 3.2 GHz, GPU ASUS GTX 970 SRIX, Memory - 8GB DDR3.
Peripherals, AKAI EIE PRO USB Sound Interface, Sony PS Eye (for head tracking with FaceTrackNoIR and a Head Mounted Infra Red L.E.D.), Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS, Mad Catz Wireless PS3 Controller, Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse.

I can't see other programmes delaying the update. Cakewalk Sonar X3 Producer is Win 10 ready but I have some Open Source VR software like Trinus VR and Moonlight.

Do Microsoft delay the update if the PC has software that may not be compatible?

as far as win10 upgrades failing goes.. when i was upgrading to windows 10 mine failed continuously, in the end i had to uninstall my anti-virus and install ALL optional updates for my current operating system, only then did my windows 10 install properly.
