Mine Launcher

Postby Joe Grizzly » Wed Apr 08, 2015 1:36 am

First of all, forgive me if this has been covered. When I search mine launcher I get all the posts about the game launcher. If we've covered this, can someone link me to that thread?

If not:

Considering I'm flying a trader with a horrible turn radius (T6), and considering there are even worse ones down the road, I'm wondering if I can equip a mine launcher or two later so I can lay mines behind me when a pirate's shooting me in the butt. It makes me totally crazy to not be able to shake them because they can maneuver better than I can.

I don't think I'll do this with the T6, but might do it with the Imperial Clipper?

So, my main question: Has anyone played around with one of these? Do the mines get laid behind you? How quickly to they become active? Is the myth of the "homing mine" a reality?

I havent used them myself, but considering how little damage they do when im chasing a cobra NPC that has these (I fly into them on purpose, pretty little 'poof'!), I wouldn't count on them stopping anything from chasing you. They could slightly annoy a sidewinder.. that has no shields.

If your goal is to just bugger off after an interdiction, chaff helps a lot!
I think NPCs almost exclusively use gimballed weapons, so just throw some confetti.

And if you put 4 pips to the engines before entering SC, you probably won't even need the confettis. Just boosting a couple of times gets usually enough distance from your interdictor for their shots to be harmless while the FSD cools down.

I have my T6 with no weapons. I do have Chaff, but rarely use it. Submit to the Interdiction, 4 pips to engines, 2 to shields (A Rated) and Boost Twice while starting the SC countdown between boosts. Never lost my shields even against a wing of 3 vultures.

What he said ;) Worked for me in my T6, T7, and still works in the T9. The Clipper is so fast, and well armed, that interdictions are not a concern!

Formula
1. Submit to interdiction (throttle back).
2. 4 pips Engines, 2 Shields.
3. Boost, Boost.
4. Hit that frameshift the second the cooldown is complete...or just spam it!
5. Continue on your merry way!
