I'm having trouble gaining empire rep. Any good ways of going about it?

What I did when I was trying to get to Baron was just jump around empire space trading and doing the odd delivery mission. Didn't really pay any attention to faction rep, took me about 3 days to go from Knight to Baron. I just made sure every system I traded in was an Empire system. I think that by trading I raised my rep with loads of minor factions and eventually that triggered the Naval mission.

Ive shoveled a good 20 million in profits (gross value ive pushed around must be atleast tenfold of that) in empire space with also the odd side mission, yet im still at rank "none". Even though I am considered an ally of the empire. Whatsup with that? My game borked?

Not necessarily. Try visiting systems where you've never been before and taking a few missions there, before switching to another system.

Think I remember reading on the main forums about players having trouble progressing in rank for factions if they were already allied. Some suggest taking and dropping missions with that faction so your rep goes down and then you can progress. I'm allied with empire and have not been able to progress past Baron. Every empire system I go to I am already allied with whatever empire company is there, so the method Flip suggested probably wont work in that situation. I'm just plugging away in a warzone fighting for the Empire side atm and will see how it goes

I ranked up to Lieutenant last night by running missions for a faction I was already allied with, I think the progression is slower when you reach allied but still possible.

When you hand in a mission it shows you your status bar, if there is still plenty of bar to fill in I think you can still get the progression missions, at least that is what seemed to happen to me.

Of course the progression missions also have a degree of RNG, so they don't always pop up straight away.

Your probably correct on that Xebeth, I'm still seeing a blue arrow on my Empire rep so guess its slowly moving on will see how it goes

I dont think you actually have to be allied, just go from neutral to friendly is enough. Or maybe more than one neutral works. I was getting rank missions even though I wasnt allied with any of them. I always go to all the close surrounding systems in what ever your working with and only do missions for them.

So, this weekend for example, I only went to Empire stations and only did Empire missions. I work with the minor factions as well as the station controlling factions as long as they are Empire. That way you are progressing with multiple minor factions all at the same time and that also contributes to the Empire faction as well. Im Baron now and I didnt get a single minor faction allied with me nor did I gain anything with the Empire either. Im still marked as Neutral with them. So as I see it, you only have to make continuous progress to get rank missions.

On a side note, I dont take the kill missions or the smuggling missions so I dont risk killing my progress with other factions be they minor or major. I do of course do the rank gaining kill missions though. That way I dont hurt my standings with the Federation doing missions for the Empire or the Alliance and vice versa. I will worry less when I have full rank in all main factions. I figure main faction war is inevitable at some point of FD's choosing. I want to be fully ranked before that happens if it ever does.
