Station seeding in the game

Postby Starkor » Thu Jan 15, 2015 7:43 pm

I have been trying to figure out if stations are seeded everywhere even into the galactic core but cannot find any answers. I love going way out but was curious that with my forays into the unknown, I have never came across a station of any type when I venture beyond 'common' name planets when the are all designations.. Anyone by chance know if stations are in fact findable/exist way out there?

I don`t think so. If you did, it would be rare in the extreme. Human civilization simply hasn`t expanded that far `yet`. It`s quite possible that in the future FD may enable expansion of stars and planets and colonization missions etc.

I wouldn`t put any money on it though.

That is what I was thinking but hoping against. :D It makes perfect sense in a way but doesn't in another way. I mean these ships are already able to go these distances 'easily' so I would have thought splinters of humanity would have spread out and while very sparse the further from Sol you get, there should be the occasional outpost here and there. It would be awesome if they 'populate' areas based on frequency of discoveries of the same system by several ships or something. Heck even let us build our own stations. The ideas and possibilities this game could go is amazing! I was just hoping to find a home somewhere in the Galactic Core :)

I also really hope they implement a system of being able to transfer ships to other shipyards for a fee... I don't like selling off ships to move. I get quite attached to them.

I agree. The scope of this game for future expansion is limitless. I can't wait to see what this game becomes in six months time.

The devs had said that currently it is not possible for the system to expand but in the future it is planned.

See this thread which has all of the dev comments about the background simulator to date:

10. We cant cause colonising of new systems yet.

That's not in game yet. For the expansion of humanity in space we want a bit more control for now.

Michael

Yes and there's no eta for doing this automatically. It's likely that we wouldn't want to completely automate that because it makes physical changes to star systems, but we'll see.

I've seen comments by David Braben that we'll be able to visit stations during construction. Not the quote I was looking for, but this from an interview with David by TechRadar (http://beta.techradar.com/news/gaming/-the-tech-caught-up-to-our-ambition-david-braben-on-the-return-of-elite-1248142):

What are your plans for player created content, such as companies or galactic organisations?
DB To start with, players are just another commander, trying to make their way in what is quite a hostile galaxy. However, participants can form alliances with other players, and we do have plans down the line for building space stations and so on.

Watch this space.

colonists as trade items perhaps, turn my python into a colonist ship. Maybe form a convoy with others and carry the colonists and kit they need to establish themselves.

The whole expansion ( and contraction for unsupported stations) or due to anarchy, population die off etc with random system events and so forth was meant to be in at launch, but due to time constraints it wasnt included in 1.0 and is most likley slowly being developed in the background at the moment, all of that type of thing is mostly server side ( changes to map, mission generation etc) ships will need passanger space and that sort of thing but the graphics required are minimal. So far we know they have worked through bugs in influence and factional expansion and things like civil war, player groups ahve formed to push the experiment and find bugs ( mikunn, pand, lugh and major alliances)

There have been changes and alterations in the way that markets work since launch, its now more dynamic ( much to the complaining of players who were expecting automatic trade routes) theres plenty of profits on the fringe but the sheep dont think much beyond earth, lave, rare and omg ive just saturated the market and my profits are growing ( not this website of course)
We have missions now for minor factions so its not just a matter of major factions expanding and no way to counter act it.

I notice recently the groups that push the changes have stopped pushing the devs for information and the devs attention has shifted to multiplayer, new ships, combat changes , fitting changes. Id hope those groups would start pushing again.

My guess is maybe once multiplayer wings are out and working, those groups fo 4 players will form bigger groups and try to do things, and with the new USS sites etc only then to find their efforts arent affecting teh background living breathing dynamic galaxy. And then the forums will start to fill up with requesting more guts and meat on bones in the game. So maybe 1.3 or 1.4 we might to see FD pulling fingers out of the pie and getting to work on finishing colony and economic changes, more dynamic mission and trade systems. the 3d map, representing things like population, povery/wealth, security a bit more indepth, development indexes, standard of living indexes, factional wealth and npc polie force/army/navy strength. Colony expansion, tieing community goals in at a lower mroe local level and more of them for smaller groups to do things to factions. Upgrading stations, or causing bad things to happen, fights over mineral rich systems ( the war event)

Passanger and troop moving missions, assasination and level 2 persistant npcs and level 3 factional leaders that give missions to commanders under his watch, perhaps power struggles within factions, government change types in factions, civil wars that split factions into smaller factions to create new factions, removal of dead factions ( u can create a circle of life here and across the board if they have the brains for it) As well as crafting via a procedural scavange, loot and crafting system variants on weapons ( ie more ammo capacity, lower power usage, higher damage output with small modifiers this was recently mentioned)

Then of course walking on planets and the like there , walking through colonies. But thats the long game, a expansion pack or two a year should provide funds, a sunscription model if they can deliver id sign up for, everything playing eve online for 10 years promised and never delivered.

And of course fixing the 1001 bugs ingame currently that cause frustration
