What is the reward for blowing up trade ships?

Destroyed ships (as of now) do not drop anything. There is speculation that they might in the future, not entirely sure.

Let's admit ti, it is not about money, even if they demand cargo. People can make more in one trade run than they can doing hours of pirating. Even calling it that is a farce. They call it that to help romanticize it from what it really is, which is common theft. I agree that it is about inferiority and dominating others.

Anyway, old man rant off. Now back to trading. Saving up for a Python on my way to a Type-9.

Ok. So it's actually alot like Dark Souls 2, where skilled PvP'ers with maxed (and modded) builds invade regular players, purely for the satisfaction of messing up someone elses day. It's a big integral part of the "evil" nature of that game, so it's either love it or leave it. And I really love that game. So I accept the random invasion and overkill.

Apparently quite alot of players enjoy this style of play. And it seems to be an integral part of Elite: Dangerous as well. If you play open play at least. So I'll have to come to terms with that as well. But I'll call them what they are. Griefers. Nothing more.

I just wish they would stop calling themselves pirates and other romantic nonsense.

Holy crap. They've got some kind of scam going on. Just got wasted by starport security, but some cmdr gnugnu got the kill. Another 2 mill. down the drain...

Open play is broken if other players can force starport security to take me out, but still claim the kill.

A kind soul on the official forum let me in on a little secret:

You have to turn off your point defence, or they (the dumb-ass griefers) will fire dumb-fire missiles into the station causing your point defence to react. Some will just ram you with their ship. This will cause the station to destroy you and give the kill to the a-hole.

If this isn't griefing I don't know what is.

Not always, Rhysling ... some drop some cargo cans, most don't.

You have to target the cargo hatch and shoot that to make sure the tradeship drops cargo. If it has some (maybe use cargo scanner). As a bountyhunter, if I shoot a WANTED ship that is suitable for trading, I make sure to shoot the cargo hatch first and see what comes out. My Viper has not that much cargo space, so I only scoop up what gives best profits on blackmarket.

Bytheway, I don't PIRATE player ships, I ONLY hunt NPCs for bounties ! If I should meet a player with a bounty ... well ... I mind my own biz, fly safe CMDR o7
