Read the Galnet News, lots of Systems are breaking away from the Scum, errr I mean Federation, mainly because of high taxes (the people in the Imperial System of Synteini do not have to pay any tax), heavy handed tactics, (the Onion Head blockade for example, Sanna, and Dulos.)

The Empire was founded by a group who had had enough of the Federal system and created the glorious Empire from their base at Achenar.

Federation is just an expansion of what is seen as an extreme view of some modern capitalist countries where companies control the votes (the US is a lot like this with its block voting systems).

In the federation corporate entities determine the fate of the Federation, the little people are crushed by the corporate forces and the rich get richer. The difference between rich & poor only gets larger and transitioning from one to another is nearly impossible. It limits an individuals potential and restricts its people to live in an inescapable cycle.

Long live the Empire where a man, or woman, can become what ever they set their heart on (within reason).
