Greetings CMDRs

Postby Cmdr Elim Rawne » Mon Jan 05, 2015 9:22 pm

Hi!

I've been playing ED since 16th Dec, was not on the beta or gamma.
Going quite slow, like the game but after about 20-30hrs of gameplay/forums/youtube I'm still stuck with the sidewinder upgraded some systems and swapped a pulse laser for a cannon. I'm not good at making money and it's showing in this game. I still love it though and that is the main reason I play Solo usually, at least until I try this PvE. I would hate to be the canon fodder for some showoff.

Anyway I'm not new to Elite - was introduced to Elite back in the 90s on the Amiga 500. The Frontier Elite II on Amiga 500 and the PC. I loved that game well beyond its time and got to do a website at the time of a fictional shipyard corporation based at Sigma Dracionis. Specialising in modifying ships for the Federal Navy. I had some fiction on the website about planetary engineering the system*. I also had downloadable files which would give the player a modified Asp and Python (better forward thrusters, reduced hull mass or increased cargo space - I forget now what it was)

Anyway at the moment in ED I still haven't figured what I should do - bounty hunting leaves me often in trouble, mining is non starter with Sidey, Rare Trading can't because small 9LY jumps and places beyond reach, Missions mostly though without a direction I'm not improving reputation with anyone. I have to try harder at trading/missions/bounty hunting.

Anyway if you see me in the void and want to say hi go ahead but let me figure out how to use the chat function in the game, haven't used it yet.

*That was a piece of fiction based on a story that the corporation tried to develop a way to build an artificial wormhole through witch space so ships without hyperdrives could travel between stars. Turned out too fuel hungry that it was uneconomical. Then accidentally deployed at a gas giant to make use of the hydrogen as fuel and a stable wormhole created but withing the gas giant. This was then developed into a complex to move material between gas giants or stars. Such that Sigma Dracionis red dwarf was boosted brighter by increasing it's mass through draining of surrounding gas giants and other stars. Such that it became hot enough that the planets could be terraformed.
I had pirctures of the system map before and after but all lost now. Only the text was saved through The Wayback Machine...http://web.archive.org/web/20050406061021/http://www2.orbit.net.mt/oliver/frontier/incity.htm

Hello Commander, and welcome! Make yourself at home! I'm sure you soon find your place in our galaxy. :)

BTW, you double-posted your intro, so I took the liberty of deleting one copy.

Welcome. You'll get into the swing soon enough. When I started out in a sidewinder, I did mostly haulage missions, seek and bring back missions and some trading. It took a while but I soon had enough to buy a hauler and kitted that out with some cargo space, some more grinding doing the same thing until I had enough for a cobra. That was during beta, but on the 16th I got given a cobra as part of the pledge rewards and have used to it to get friendly with some factions, in order to get better missions. Now ive managed to get a T6 as well. I have three ships, my T6 for trading, a Cobra for bounty hunting and an eagle I'm yet to fly in.

Thanks for welcoming me in the group.
Flip: Yes I did double post as I didn't notice that each posting needs to be approved. After the second posting didn't appear I read more carefully.
Combiseries: I guess that has to be the start as you said. It means I will have a long time to enjoy the game because I estimate that now after Christmas holidays I'd be lucky to manage more than 3 he's a week.

Same here. I work, have children and a wife plus I attend Karate three times a week. Oh, I also have a dog that I walk, run, cycle with mornings and after work. So I only get to play when the wife is watching something rubbish on TV. So I get about 3 or 4 hours a week.

Wow that's excellent time management! got 1 kid, 1 job 20 minutes away and I get only 3hrs a week usually Sat night!

In fact today is the first time I play since last year, I changed my commander name from my real name to Elim Rawne - no affiliations with the character of Gaunt's Ghosts I just liked the sound of it ... :)

Now off to start the climb back to 1000Cr again :)

I will start in the Mobius group first time tonight....may we meet in the void.

Hey...

New too, so probably in the same boat...

We (there are 2 of us) traded the cheap stuff to get better FSDs... then headed out to LHS 3505, Olivas City where we picked up Advanced Catylisers (as much as we could afford/carry) and carry them to Fullerton Horizons in Mbukuravi. We did this repeatedly (empty return) and increased cargo size til we could get haulers... then put up to a 16t capacity... This brings about 14000/run. Adder in a few hours.

I was on course to get a cobra about now, but I messed up and forgot to ask permission before a docking... so I'm set back a few hours... well, overnight as I realised I'm too drunk to play.

Good Luck, Commander.
