*** Warning: long post that admittedly rambles on and on. TL;DR version: Newbie says, "Great to meet you all!" ***

Greetings all!

I am very new, as in BRAND new, to Elite: Dangerous. I have found it daunting, to say the least, but I am happy to have found Mobius - I group that seems to share my preferences and play-style.

I hail from near Toronto, Canada. I am in my mid-forties, and have been a gamer as long as I remember. Replacing my Pong colsole, I was the first of my friends to get the Atari 2600 when it first came out (my parents were awesome and fed my gaming desires my whole life). So that tells you how LONG I have been a gamer. Sadly, I work very long hours now, and get up at 4am to head to work. I don't get home until 6pm if I am lucky, which leaves only a little time for gaming, after dinner and spending some time with my wife. Playing involved games like EVE, which I did for 4 years, are just not in the cards any longer, as I can't commit the time. Our son is off to university now (also a gamer - we raised him well, if I must say so myself), so we're adjusting to being 'just' a couple again.

As for my gaming preferences, my tastes have evolved and changed over time. I do like MMOs, and my wife and I practically lived in City of Heroes together. Oh yeah, my wife is a gamer as well (I lucked out here, admittedly), but not as passionate as me. She does, however, allow me to indulge my gaming habits whenever I see fit. I did play a few space sims over the years, with X-Wing and Tie Fighter, as well as Descent: Freespace coming to mind. But something about ED caught my eye. Perhaps the exploration factor, or the choice of playing Solo or Open without losing any progress appealed to me. Whatever it was, here I am.

I no longer seem to have the reflexes I used to, and the combat part of ED has not been kind to me thus far. So I have been playing mostly Solo, trading and doing small, easy courier missions. But sometimes I feel as if I am "hiding" in Solo. Hard to explain, but this is why I am seeking out Mobius.

I am not experienced enough to probably join any Wings or be of much use in any combat situations. But I am learning daily, when I get an hour or two to play. I can dock and launch now without crashing, and even evaded an Interdiction this morning. But the other 6 combat encounters I have had... didn't go as well. ;)

Hope to see some of you out there. I am currently around the Kremainn area. I have upgraded to an Adder, which I actually kind of like. I am learning which parts to upgrade first, and to what, etc.

So if anyone ever bumps in to me, be sure to hail a 'Hello!'. Just don't be disappointed if I don't answer instantly - I am probably panicking. :D

Welcome to Mobius, commander DaBruuzer! :)

The adder is a great ship that will serve you well as you progress in the game. I remember using mine for quite a while when I was getting my feet wet in the game.

As for loosing your reflexes in your mid-40's.... humm..... there are a **LOT** of Mobius members in their 50's, 60's and beyond, so we don't want to hear whining from the young whipper snappers like you. ;) j/k

I would be happy to wing up with you as soon as you feel that you're ready. There are some pretty low key combat places to go where you can get some practice while making some big credit payout based on our combined kills. I was working with a new guy yesterday that has been playing E-D for a month. I was his first wingman, and he made about $400,000 credits in about 30-45 minutes in a relax and low key RES. I'm always happy to help!

Feel free to add your name to the In game friend list thread and check out our TeamSpeak servers to easily chat with, and possibly wing up with other commanders. Also, make sure to check the Policy page if you haven't already.

There is a lot of great info on the message board, and we have compiled a long list of Tips and Tricks to help new players acclimate to the game while having fun.
