Just joined Mobius yesterday and happy to be here after playing E:D in solo mode for a couple of weeks. My first foray into Open Play got me attacked by some muppet that stole my cargo with some kind of device that penetrated my hull. At least he didn't blow me out of the sky all together and had the courtesy of leaving my ship at 25% damage so I could limp back to the nearest station and figure out WTF just happened!

Still have my noob wings and hope to meet a few friendly CMDRs out there (have yet to use the comms panel!). Someone somewhere said this was a learning curve ... not wrong there!

Sorry you had to deal with a griefer in open play. but... I'm glad that you found us!

No doubt... the E-D learning curve is steep... but it's ***SOOOO* much fun once you start getting it!

Feel free to add your name to the In game friend list thread and check out our TeamSpeak servers to easily chat with, and possibly wing up with other commanders. Also, make sure to check the Policy page if you haven't already.

There is a lot of great info on the message board, and we have compiled a long list of Tips and Tricks to help new players acclimate to the game while having fun.

What is the protocol/easiest way to use that comms panel to hook up with other commanders in the area?

Since venturing into Open Play I haven't really seen anyone out there (apart from the schmuck that stole my cargo!!).

Since venturing into Open Play I haven't really seen anyone out there (apart from the schmuck that stole my cargo!!).

If another commander is in the same system, he will show up as 'local' at the top of your 'friends' list. (2nd tab on the comms panel).

You can send a text chat to 'local', but I've found that some commanders don't notice it. You can also select him on that 2nd comms tab and send him a direct message, which is more visible.

To see commanders in systems around you (and everywhere, really) go to the 'in game friends list', and start sending friend requests. Once it is accepted by the other commanders, the others will show up as a green icon on your galaxy map. You'll be able to see where they are and how far they are from you. Great for winging up.

If I enter Open Play and am a member of Mobius Group does that mean I'm only playing with members of this group?

There doesn't seem to be a way to play "in the group" unless I'm missing something. Space is a pretty lonely place, still haven't seen anyone else out there!

If you login to the game and choose start, then you get options of Open (play with everyone that also selects open), Private Group (which you then have to select Möbius to play ONLY with people in the Möbius group), or Solo (all by yourself).

Chatting in game with people on your friends list will let you contact them regardless of what they are playing (Open, Group, or Solo).

In game if you are in the same instance as another commander and chat with them, then they are playing in the same mode as you are.

Known Bug. Do not go into Friends and Groups BEFORE selecting start and then it will show properly assuming your app has been accepted already. Close the game and come back in. Could take up to 24 hours for Mobius to actually accept your application to the group as he has to do it by hand.
