A few introductory questions

Postby Seeger » Wed Jun 10, 2015 8:53 pm

Hey guys, Seeger here. I picked up the game simply because there is a PVE group that will remove the ganking (yay!) from play. I can't tell you how happy that makes me. I thought that being shot in the back while doing something fun was recognized as overplayed in EVE, but it seems like that's just become an unavoidable way of life if you're into space sims.

I did have a few questions, because I have a bunch of people who might come into the game if this works out. Firstly, how often do we encounter each other? I'm asking because one of the main reasons I was interested in this group is that a PVE only experience means freedom of interaction, so I can finally see someone random in space and make friends instead of worrying that they're there to interrupt my fun.

Second, how often do you encounter anything? I've heard there's a lot of time doing nothing in this game. Fifteen minutes or so doesn't bother me, but I might not have hours to play anymore.

Lastly, how many people are around anymore? I know the game suffered some pretty dramatic dropoff recently (as is expected with any new release), but I didn't know how much this affected Elite. Are you still fairly numerous?

Just some questions so I can see if I can drag a couple people looking for a long-awaited and well-deserved break from enforced space-ganking. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the group and forums, commander! Around the faction capitals and the old world's there are always some players on.

Just a question: Where does the information come from there would have been a drop off? If you take the growth rate of our group as reference it's actually picking up.

Anyways have fun and fly safe.

Hey Seeger, well there's over 9000 Commanders in this group with more joining every day, so as Flip points out the numbers seem to going up, not down.

I often see Commanders around and about and have participated in a number of impromptu wings, as well as simply chatting to people I have bumped into.

You'll find that generally everyone is really friendly and helpful, in-game, and especially on this forum, check out the 'Factions and Powers' section to see what people are doing as a group, or feel free to set-up your own faction or power group and invite people to join.

Most importantly, as Dudley has said, check out the friends thread and just start adding people.

As for encountering stuff, that depends what you mean, there is plenty of stuff to do if you know where to look, Resource Extraction Sites (RES) are great for bounty hunting whilst flying in an asteroid field and are found in many systems, Combat Zones appear and disappear as wars breakout between minor factions and are the place for big space battles, expected to be 'interdicted' on a fairly regular basis by NPC enemies and pirates, or simply relax with a bit of trading or exploration. You may even wish to turn your hand to a bit of piracy yourself (only against NPCs of course).

Don't expect to be led by the game, you need to find 'your' thing, try all the aspects and work out what you like doing, play the Power Play thing if it's your bag, or ignore it completely, don't let anyone dictate how you should have fun, as long as you stick to the few and simple Mobius rules, then you can basically do what you want.

Fly safe and see you in the void.

how often you encounter things is a function of where you are, if your out exploring 1000 ly from inhabited space you're not going to bump into a lot in the way of Cmdr's or NPC's

if you are in the core systems or even on of the groups 'home' stations then you are going to see a shed load of NPC's and a fair few other Cmdrs.

you'll find us a friendly bunch and relatively asshat free, we have had a few in the group who have played like dicks but they tend to get reported and removed fairly quickly once reported (to a mod or admin via m, screenshots/video always preferred)

as for numbers, the amount of people in the group is steadily increasing so despite what you may have heard the game is still going strong ;)

oh and one quick request as your name is close, i got to name an NPC as i backed the kickstarter, the name i chose was 'Iain Segger' after a friend of mine that passed away, if anyone spots him i would appreciate it if you posted a screen shot for me, it would be nice to see what he is flying ;)

Welcome! How many other people you see really depends on where you are and what is going on. Faction capitals, starter systems, and anywhere there is a Community Goal happening are good places to find others. Hit up the in game friends list thread and add you name, then add a few people. Have fun and fly safe!

Xebeth meant Wolf, not Flip, but it's OK, I could have said the same. :)

The friends list that has been mentioned a couple of times is here, BTW. Feel free to add your name to it. And make sure to check the Policy page if you haven't already.

Welcome aboard and fly safe! :)

Oh, sorry! I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. I haven't hear this group's numbers have gone down at all. I'd heard that the overall numbers had gone down from their initially high populations just as far as open is concerned. Even that might not be accurate, but I had heard it on a few forums, and decided it might be a good idea to ask.

Works for me! I'll see you all in game!

Yeah, I understand. When you see a red username, you put on your Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive Sunglasses and run. Wise! :D
