The bounties are split evenly between the wingmen. You'll probably be winging up with players in larger ships, which will result in faster kills of larger pirates. I.E. - more money for you! $$ In a Haz-RES, it's pretty typical to see Pythons, Clippers, and FAS worth $150k -$200k each, and Conda's up to $350k on a good day. I wouldn't recommend that you go into a Haz-RES on your own, but with a solid wingman in a larger ship it would be quite profitable for you.

I found this out from a groupmate last night actually. I must have been reading old information about wings even having the last shot fired get the whole bounty. In any case, I have some plans to wing up with a guy tonight. Still seems the guy that robbed me of my kill last night should have seen me in a sidewinder and at least offered to wing up. Oh well, in a group this big there's sure to be plenty of people that just aren't the level of "team player" that most of us would like. Seems the good ones are more than making up for that one sour experience, though. =D

My usual wing mate got me into the game in early December and we did just as John Luke describes. I was in a Cobra Mk III in less than an hour and had it fully A modded in about 3 hours.
