I agree with you there, I'm waiting to have over 1M cr. to buy the Cobra and decent equipment, the 300K from the sale of the Hauler and the Eagle will cover insurance and trading funds.
I'm in no hurry, I have fun practice hunting with the Eagle . :)

Yes I am working my way slowly towards that goal.

Well hopefully you are playing in the Mobius private group (or if they can't add anymore now because they are too full just play solo to start out and later you can join Mobius private group or Open when your feeling more confident).

I certainly am playing in Mobius

So are you getting blown to pieces from NPCs interdicting your or just accidents? Either way, always have enough insurance to cover yourself no matter what - unless you like risking it! :-)

Interdictions from NPCs

But if you are getting interdicted by the AI (an NPC) while trading it is really easy to get away. First, just submit - bring your throttle to zero (a throttle zero button is a good hotkey for controllers or Joystick/HOTAS setups as is a 75% throttle, but that is another topic). As soon as you are pulled out of supercruise and see that NPC behind you, probably saying something like, "Your cargo is mine!". Just start hitting your boost. When I'm trading I usually just fly with 2 pips in shields, 4 pips in engines, and no pips in weapons because I don't even have weapons on a trading ship. So if engines are maxed, just bob and weave, move left, right, up, roll, etc. and keep tubroing. It won't be long for FSD to be ready to use again if you submitted (I think only 5 seconds or so). Then just weave one last time and hit your jump button. You may get tagged a bit when your charging, but I find that after even a couple of boosts the AI just isn't that smart and doesn't really keep up with you.

Well having read your advice yesterday I tried it last night. Would you believe, 4 hours of playing and only one interdiction, but it worked. As you said, I took a bit of damage but I escaped, ship and cargo intact. Thank you!

TomoRosso wrote:Are you using a 360 controller? I used one for a week or so but found it limiting, it was hard to get he controller to do everything I wanted and still give me the ability to use lateral thrust when engaging hostiles, so I got an x52 and it's now a far better experience - As you're in Eravate running Marine Eqt from Cleve Hub to Ackerman Market and Tea on the return will give you a good 900+ cr per ton to get you started (assuming you have the credits to buy the stock) Cleve Hub is currently my home base but I trade around systems about 30 ly away, might see you around commander. Corsaire is often in Eravate keeping the AI pirates at bay :)

No I am using a keyboard and mouse at the moment. Joystick definitely on the cards though. The Cleve Hub to Ackerman Market route is actually what I was doing when I got interdicted and lost everything :) Since Emanon@s advice above I have been risking some longer routes and so far, doing ok.

Malphator wrote:I got a late start waiting around for my HOTAS to arrive. I even got tired of waiting and jumped in and acclimated to mouse/kb (which I still use, agh. lol). I have only recently got into a Cobra. I had purchases one earlier, when I only had around 500,000 cr. I quickly realized this was not wise, as all the Cobra's class 4 modules get super pricey super fast! lol. Just a heads up!

Ah, I had been planning on saving for a Cobra. What did you go for when you realised the Cobra upkeep was too expensive?

Overall the cobra isn't too bad for upkeep but to start out it does seem expensive. I just ended up piece mailing mine together. Keep enough for insurance, save for best shields, save for best thrusters, sensors, etc., depending on what u want it's role to be. Imo, the Cobra is the first great multi-role ship, so it's worth saving for. I'm sure Mal meant u can't just buy it and get it all A class pimped out items right away cause it will be expensive.

Hengest,

As soon as you feel comfortable with SC, Jumps, Navigation and you have a decent jump range distance (15LY or greater imo) etc, try going to one of the rare route starports, I have posted some on the forums here. the one I normally do however takes about an hour to an 1 hr 30. I will list it here and in main forums.

I start in Coquim (but you can reverse the route and start in Lave/Leesti/Orrere also)

Step 1: In Coquim (Hiryama Installation), you buy Coquim Spongiforms (20 max) (all rares are bright yellow colour on commodities market, u can only buy a maxnumber which I will write next to each port, once u have the max in hold you can get no more, you will have to wait approx. 10 mins for respawn of rares in most stations to ensure you get the full amount).

Step 2: Plot course to Orrere (145 LY approx. and u will need a fuel scoop to refuel on your way), In Orrere (Sharon Lee Free Market) sell the coquim spongiforms (300k approx. for 20) and buy Orrere vicious Brew (16 max).

Step 3: Jump to Diso (Shifnalport) 7LY, and buy Diso Corn (15max).

Step 4: Jump to Leesti (George lucas) 3 LY and buy Azure Milk (7 max) and Lesstian Evil Juice (14 max)

Step 5: Jump to Lave (Lave Station) 4 LY and buy Lavian Brandy (7 Max)

Step 6: Jump to Zaonce (Ridley Scott) 5 LY and buy Leather Egg (1 Max, you can only get 1 so don't hang around)

Step 7: Plot Course for Coquim ( Hirayama installation) and return there, sell all the rares you have and the entire trip should net you in the region of 1.1 mill to 1.3 million credits. Repeat as often as you like or until you get brain freeze lol.

There are longer routes and more profitable but what I like about this one is it is staright forward with only 2 bigger than 100 LY routes (Coquim to Orrere and return). Around the Orrere region you have 4 other rare systems all within 1 jump distance. If you start with this route you can expand it as you feel more confident. There are some anarchy systems (Orrere) so you will be interdicted once or twice and be careful when fuel scooping but it is a relatively easy route with good CR for 1 hr 30 mins work, may take a bit longer when you first do it until you become fast at fuelling etc etc.

I will post this on main forum also for any new players that want to make some early credits. Best ship to do it in I find is the asp (84 cargo), you will need a ship with beteen 60 and 90 cargo space and a reasonable jump range (15 or greater I would recommend). The cobra or adder could do this I think if upgraded.

Hope this helps.

Pretty much this, yeah. Even the D and C modules can put a huge dent in your proverbial wallet if it's not very fat to begin with!

After I sold back that first Cobra, I focused on using the Adder for courier missions and trading, to build up more cash. And an Eagle for nav beacon bounty hunting, when I wanted to mix things up a little bit. Could even skip the Eagle and just use the Sidewinder for 'easy' bounty hunting. It will get the job done (especially when the Feds decide to help! haha) and if you do happen to get outmatched, and blown to bits... well. You're just out a sidewinder your insurance will replace for a pittance, soooo.... No great set back at all.

I dunno about the OP, but that helped me immensely! I never did understand what people meant by 'trading rares,' exactly. Even the routine trading I do is very paltry and only takes a few minutes. I dunno if I could sit here long enough to go through all that. LOL.

Additionally, the Cobra maxes out at 60 tonnes, after giving up shields. So it'd be iffy, at best? I dunno. I've run it that way a little, early on, to really pile in more credits on my aforementioned routine runs. But all that you mentioned? Hmmmmm. I dunno. I'd be a nervous wreck the whole time! Haha.

When i first started late in 2014, I could barely manage to land a ship inside a station. Indeed, I lost one Sidewinder by crashing it on approach. In my first week, I went 0-10 against in the Sidewinder vs. Sidewinder tutorial duel. Things like No-FA (Flight Assist) loops, maneuvering thrust in combat, and dogfighting inside crowded asteroid belts were beyond what I would even consider trying.

Just today, I pulled a no-FA loop, came face to face with a huge asteroid, hit downward thrust, toggled all power to weapons, blasted away at a pirate, hit forward thrust under the rock, pulled up, hit upward thrust and pulled all power to engines before entering another no-FA loop and then toggling FA on once more. And I did it all without one use of Voice Command shortcuts.

By which I mean: It becomes second nature. You absolutely will get used to it. And dont be discourage by the tutorials. They use weak weapons and a weak shield to boot. Just go play the game, relax and let it come to you. Its hard, in the beginning. But the first time you cut FA, loop around, turn FA back on, toggle power to weapons and blast away at a pirate while pulling back on the stick and thrusting upward, all without a single mistake...its absolutely glorious.

Happy flying!

Thanks all for the input and advice, it really has been a great help. And look!

Ok, so it cost more in ammo than I got for the bounty but I am happy :)

Love it!
That's my thing right there, and that's why I've removed my two guns - no temptation anymore :)

Well done on your first kill Commander!
