Hello all.
You'll find me here, at frontier and in the game as DRY411S. It's the number plate I've always wanted, as it relates closely to my real name.
I got a BBC micro through work in the early 1980's when they started a computer literacy campaign. I already had a BBC Micro, was already working in IT, but it was a great way of buying a Beeb with a disk interface.
The first game I bought on disk was Elite. As well as being hooked on the game, it also got me into the 'guts' of computers as I worked out (and broke) the copy-protection on the Elite disk!
I briefly dabbled with one of the Elites on an Amiga in the 90's but it was incredibly buggy.
ED is my first multiplayer online game, though I have played LAN games in the house with my 16-year old son. I'm hoping he might get hooked on this new Elite, but he's one of today's generation that needs instant gratification and as his motto is "I can't be bothered" I doubt he'll get into this game. It's one of my biggest worries about this game, that it won't appeal to the younger generation (or two) below me and will die on the vine.
Joined here to hopefully interact with real people in the galaxy without the risk of being blasted out of the sky every time.
