Which setting did you change ? You have to 'stop' to change settings but they should take effect when you then run it again.

Where did you download it from?

Oh God!!! So sorry!!! That's because the text is from the EDDiscovery which I was running at the same time with SSC.
That's what you get trying to combine wing exploration with EDSM updating, taking screenshots, running EDD, SSC, EDMC AND trying to put to bed two extremely agitated kids of 5 and 7 years!!!

Tonight I will give it another check.

How embarrassing...

:D No problem.

BUT If you are running multiple little helper apps you do increase the chance that they are all trying to access the same log file or screenshot etc at the same time and will get file access errors like the one above. Worth checking that you are not setup to have two apps try to do the same thing......

Point taken. I will run solely SSC tonight for the check.

I close the app and restarted it. I had lost all settings and read the following:

19/01/2016 21:39:19 - Detected that Elite: Dangerous is not running.
19/01/2016 21:39:19 - Not ready to start. Have you been through the settings?
19/01/2016 21:39:33 - Not ready to start. Have you been through the settings?

Verbose is activated, because I can save them to my Inara account.

Well, the first time it took me a while to find the correct log file location. Then everything was working and ED crashed and I had to relocate the directory. Then I decided to save BMP to BMP and delete the original, and ED crashed again. So then I had to specify the directory again, and select BMP and BMP and to delete the original again. Then I exited SCC and restarted it. The next time ED crashed, SCC started with the correct settings.

I did Stop SCC before making changes and then Start it again, but on the earlier attempts I did not exit. So it appears to me that the settings are saved to disk on exit, rather than just to memory when you stop & start it.
It's time to give this another go.

 well, I think I followed that :D
I'll have a check through the save. I thought it was saving everything once you closed the settings screen, and some as soon as you made changes (like tick boxes). "Why the inconsistancy?" you might be thinking. Simple, I'm making it up as I go along!

I guess it's not keeping setting because it's crapping out. I see that it can't find the appconfig file then three minutes later it does. Anything happen in that time? Can you confirm that before you click on 'Start' that the correct config directory is set in the verbose log section of the settings? The JIT debug says it's trying to look for it at 'C:\Windows\appconfig.xml'

It just occured (why not before now!) that the location of the appconfig.xml and the logfiles are always the same relative to the game version directory e.g. 'elite-dangerous-64'. That means I can simplify it so that you could pick that directory and I can work out the relevant locations.

LOL, well I should clarify that ED was not CTD but freeze & lockup requiring a hard reset.
It's time to give this another go.
