we won't really HAVE to, you've got a year to do it in otherwise it isn't free.

I plan on installing 10 on my main machine as soon as its available to me, but i'll wait a few months before installing it on my laptop. that way if it makes a mess of any of my games i'll still have something to play on while waiting for them to sort it out.

That's a strategy I might adopt. Was planning on doing the upgrade this weekend.

Disclaimer: I am and have been a SysAdmin for many many years, and my Education is in IT. I have been in the industry starting as a Programmer way back in the mid to late 80's.

I have been part of the Insider Preview for a while, and have had a few issues that will make me wait a while before I do the update. One is issues with my X52Pro which if unplugged while windows is running it hangs the system, and problems with the MFD and calibration in Win10. The other issue was the RPC server started to fail for no apparent reason, and that caused windows to fail even in safe mode.

Other than that, I was suitable impressed with the new OS. It will pose problems and issues in the larger deployments at this point, enterprise moves Glacially slow. For home users, I would imagine that in about 6 months most of the real problems will be gone and it will be completely stable and solid for 99% of the current installed base of windows. That other 1% will need years to be able to get all the legacy software issues sorted.

Don't forget about DX12 which has some VERY impressive features for gamers. Most of the people will see a significant boost in game performance, people running SLI/Crossfire will finally use the full power of both GPUs, and laptop gamers will actually be able to use both the integrated and the dedicated GPU to run games giving them even better performance.

I will personally jump into Win10 on day one. I've done the same with Win7 and Win8.1 (not win8... that was just pure crap) and I hade zero issues.

Nope, and I have no intention of doing so.

I'm planning to put it on my laptop to have a look at it. I'll wait until I'm happy with it before risking it on my main PC

Presumably this only applies if the game is written to take advantage of it?
