RIP Chris Squire

Postby Flip » Mon Jun 29, 2015 1:47 pm

I'm shocked to learn that Chris Squire, co-founder and bass player of Yes (my all times favorite band) passed away yesterday. He was 67 and died of leukaemia. :(

Chris Squire was not only one of the best bassists in the world, he was also one of the best composers and a great back vocalist. The band has gone through lots of changes, during the years, but Squire has always been the constant. Yes will never be the same again, now.

Sad to hear this :(

I was never a Yes fan, but I have fond memories from school days. Where half my mates were Yes fans, myself and the rest were Genesis fans (Peter Gabriel times). We would have endless discussions about who was the best drummer, guitarist, etc.

I'm a fan of Jon Anderson, especially Jon and Vangelis.

But this is sad news. Even although I wasn't a fan I still appreciated the contribution this talented group of artists made to music.

Yeah, the Fish. :(

Seen them live in 78, I think, on the tour that followed the release of Going For The One. And a few times on the 90125 tour, as I worked on some venues.

I listened to YES for the first time when I was about 6 or 7. My cousin put on Fragile. He was about 5 years older than I was. He was a musical guide for me. He took me to my first concert. Pink Floyd in 75 I think.

I always enjoyed there musicianship. And later I got to see Anderson Bruford Wakeman and Howe in concert.

I have to realise at my age that many of my favourite musicians are getting up in age and life happens. Still sad to hear when someone goes in this fashion.

I think I need to sit down zone out and listen to Tales from Topographical Oceans.
