I have 3 CPUs that I attempted Windows 10 upgrade on. One 8.1 and one 7 versions upgraded smoothly with no problems so far. However, the other 8.1 CPU, which is my primary gaming machine, did not upgrade well. I think my NVDIA video card and X55 game controller had serious conflicts, causing a disrupted upgrade. Thank goodness I could revert back to Windows 8.1 on that computer.

Windows 10 seems like a good upgrade where I could use it...

I did the upgrade on my laptop. It runs perfectly. All drivers were installed by default, no errors, no hickups, and my laptop runs significantly faster. Elite runs on 60FPS with med/high settings (used to run on low before), except when facing a star. Then the FPS drop to 40-45.

I've noticed how my graphics settings only show my real GPU now, and not the integrated one + the dedicated ATI GPU. I was hoping to see this since they did say that Win10 will treat both laptop GPUs as single unit which means better performance.

I'll be upgrading my main rig when I get back home from the holidays.

Upgraded tonight was a piece of cake. Not played with everything yet but looks ok and its legal now :) Seamless transition with only one minor update needed to sound card driver.

My laptop is running hotter. It feels hotter and the fan is on all the time and blowing hot air.

I have it looking mostly like Win7, except for the crappy start menu, which won't let you remove some things and puts other things back. I still can't find things by navigating to them, but they pop right up in the search bar. I imagine I'll eventually find a Win7 style start menu program, but I haven't really needed it yet. I use this machine almost exclusively for web browsing or looking at downloaded pictures and movies.

It is VERY NICE not having the charms menu pop up incessantly while using the touch pad. For this reason alone it blows Win8.1 out of the water. I don't think I've screamed at the screen since the upgrade.
It's time to give this another go.

I did the deed today. I installed the Win 10 upgrade over Win7 just long enough to authenticate, then it was time to "format C" and do a clean install. 8-)

The install went smooth, except for a couple of hiccups along the way. Par for the course with clean OS installs in my book.

Still settling in with the new start menu configuration and other "improvements".

I learned that I despise the new mail program. I use gmail, and stricktly access it through a browser so no problems there. My wife has a Gmail account and a POP3 account. The 'mail' program (very generic name.... come on Microsoft!) doesn't have a way to import POP3 account settings, contacts, or messages. ***REALLY???*** I couldn't find a way to do it, and searched on line for quite a while only to find other people with the same frustration. I learned that I could download Windows Live Mail (that my wife was happily using in Win7), so I proceeded with that plan. It installed fine and I inported all of her account info. Easy peasy.

I had a LOT of trouble getting my X-52 working, but I'll cover that in the Win 10 tips and tricks thread.

My son tried to. Win10 crashed after deleting his reinstall partition. A 60 pound lesson learned (new OEM Win8 and drivers on cd's, shipping included).

We'll be giving it a wide birth till spring. :)
