If only OpenGL could get more serious backing to bring it up to par, then systems like Linux or SteamOS would start to really whittle down certainly the gamer OS choice from Windows. Even more so if it would be made API compatible to ease the transition for programmers (assuming no lawsuits would happen). To be honest it is the only thing stopping me from going over to Linux full time. Pretty much everything else I use has a Linux port or has an equivalent in the Linux world, but I can't be bothered to have to dual boot for games or productivity.

Actually I had the same thoughts for some time now, but whether we like it or not Linux lacks behind Windows for the average home user.

I have tried Win10 three times, and three times my combination of hardware has hosed it. I am lucky I have accurate up to date backups. If they did that to me, I would be pissed but could go back easily. But a lot of people wouldn't be so lucky. After you upgrade you have 31 days to go back. So You go back to Win7/8 and then do a windows update and it does a Win10 upgrade.

Its a callous loop that is going to screw people up.

You got that right. Microsoft's new incremental update development path means that the next update is coming soon.

"What is Redstone? It’s the next big update to Windows 10 slated for release sometime in 2016.Redstone is the second update coming for Windows 10 and is a larger update compared to Threshold 2. Redstone will be what Windows 8.1 was to Windows 8 essentially, bringing much needed changes and improvements to the feature-set and design of Windows 10. Redstone is scheduled to launch around a year after Windows 10 did, and is pretty much ‘next’ version of Windows."

That means that they are also on track to whatever 10.3 will be called. Regardless, if they follow the original plan I read about then the major update that comes two years after the release of Windows 10 will probably be the first paid update. The new change of not owning a single operating system for seven to ten years is going to drive many consumers crazy, but it should be for the best and a hell of a lot cheaper than the old business model on the consumer side.

Thanks for the tip. :shock:
I stupidly re-enabled automatic updates on my media PC that has all my old software on it that won't work with Windows 10.

Microsoft = GDMFA! :x
It's time to give this another go.

Loriath wrote:Most people have Windows update setup to automatically install updates, and that usually includes Recommended updates. Now Microsoft is pushing the Windows 10 update as a Recommended update.

What this means is that your system may automatically update your machine to Windows 10 even if you don't want it.

The easiest way to block this is to run Windows Update and click Change Settings. From there, look for the Recommended Updates Section and make sure it is Unchecked. It means that you will have to occasionally check windows update for recommended updates that are NOT Windows 10 and install them.

See this article for More Information on blocking the Windows 10 Update.

Cheers Loriath. As you know I'm in the other boat. I can't get win10 because unknown error. :) What a lovely mess MS are making of things. :P
