Unfortunately, I have my hand in things tech related within the game so I have to sort of wanna gonna shoulda read it. The technical posts I have written here would not have come about if I ignored the main forums.

With half the moderators protecting their behinds, it's an awfully tricky thing to say -anything- to them at the best of times, particularly when they're being utterly obnoxious.

Exactly! There is the feeling over there, for me at least, that the mods are too lightly dealing with things and that a certain type of posters have overrun the forums and they can't reign it back in, but that is just my opinion.

Now that is how most of my posts end up, too!
If you need an extra security layer, do that in an external editor, so you don't hit 'post' by mistake.
This I do with my emails at work if I am too riled up. You only send the wrong mail to your boss once!

Tried that once. I was writing it in word, on a large monitor, and I have a bad habit when proof reading to speak it out loud so that it registers more. Problem was the message was intended for a co-worker, and I wanted to get my frustrations out without saying anything. Co-worker was standing behind me and I didn't know it as I read out loud my diatribe. Needless to say it was worse than if I had sent it, because I put all the vocalization feelings into my read. I should have gotten an oscar nomination for best voiceover work at least, even if it meant I screwed up that workplace relationship.

ROFL, ya know i've done this so many freaking times. You nailed it. I don't frequent the ED forums, but I am very active on the Reddit. If you block out the trolls, ragers, and the elitist pirates, you can actually have some decent discussions and debates. There are a lot of players with some really good ideas on there.

I find it helps to dampen Ill feelings by using text fonts etc to add a little 'accent' to my posts. Something along the lines of:

WHAT YOU FAIL TO UNDERSTAND IS...

Then I Make a cup of tea and wait for the Rep to come flooding in.

On that note I particularly like posts where people quote a post with the comment +repped. It must be a great comfort.

As someone who "won" a month-long ban for reporting a moderator being a jackass (using the report a post function, as you're supposed to, with it being construed as "moderator harassment"), you'll find very little love from me towards most of them over there right now. Some of them try and do a good job and deserve support, but there's a significant proportion who, I'm sorry to say, are biased, let the power get to their heads, or are simply incompetent.

There just aren't enough mods who are willing to take a stand and actually moderate the negativity, aggression, trolling and posturing, never mind the actively destructive, harmful posts by people who take deep, cruel pleasure in destroying everything and everyone they can find.

I have an unwritten rule to never visit the official forums (forae? I can't remember) for any game, this has served me well over the years, but I broke it for ED. Okay, not everything about the official forums is bad, just a large number of the posters. I shall try to stick to my rule more in future.
