New PMs showing as Notifications

It struck me as odd that for the two new PMs I received, the site told me about them in with my 'Notifications' and not 'Private Messages' count. Is that expected? If so, it makes having a counter on the 'Private Messages' link pointless.

Yep, so I can set it to not have the notifications for new PMs . Does that then increment the number for 'Private Messages'?
I've removed the tick, can someone send me a message?

Untick for them to go to notifications and they do then increment the PM count.
Massively unimportant question answered. I feel much better now.

Well, actually the unread PM count should have incremented with the tick also.
Did anybody else have this issue? I have the notifications on, and the PM counter still shows me the unread PM count.

I have notifications ON, and when I'm getting a PM, both the Notifications and the Private Messages counters increase.
