Between reformatting and getting sucked in to Wildlands and Origins I have not been on the game for more than an hour over the last month or so. So I am curious about changes, if any, to shields. Also would love some tips. I defected to the Empire (bleh) in order to be where I am at now, at the cusp...

Yeah, I love HB. I have bought dozens of games through them, especially those games that are so old you don't want to pay $10 on Steam for but miss playing it.

Also came in handy when I got in to the AC games, played Syndicate and a week later all but 2 were in a bundle for 20 bucks.

My Vette, I do combat mostly anyway.

On my FDL I use 3 Eff beams and 2 RF multies (corrosive/incen).

On my Vette I use RF Pulse with the 2 huge being RF multis (same as above).

On my Cutter, I run like a chicken. The ship is crap in a fight, only good for cargo running.

I can't speak to the media materials, as for ships to kill, that's the simple part. Never kill any ships from any other Imperial faction, but ones in Imperial space from the Federation or one of the Indy powers won't net you merits either. If you want to get some decent merits and don't mind a price...
