I'm not clear on what this would entail for me as a Mobius player, but I'm guessing the following. 1 - I'd need to leave the Winters powerplay faction. 2 - We're in Empire space, so we're going to be Empire aligned (ugh :x ) and that's going to be a problem for me still working on my Federal standin...

As a Winters pilot I'm making next to no cash from undermining, only the cash you get for redeeming your merits. I'm still earning 5mill a week for three or so hours work, so its not a huge problem, but I'm honestly at a loss as to how others are making so much more from this. How is it done? Where ...

Yup - merit retention makes no sense to me beyond that it has no resemblance to the system included in the PP manual. I've never tried these missions because PvE piracy in ED is all kinds of borked at the moment.

I think your time would be better spent dropping the mission and carrying on doing more productive tasks at present. It is very frustrating that parts of the game simply do not function as they should.

This is definitely a "find items floating in space mission" and not a "acquire these items anyway you can" mission? Because if it is the latter, you are expected to achieve that via piracy rather than anything else. Given the BB is giving you no indication of where to find them, ...
