Elite: Dangerous PvE - Mobius

im at a loss with the merit retention.. my numbers don't seem to add up either wk 1. 1500 earned wk 2. carried 1500, earned 1500 wk 3. carried 2500, earned 2500 wk 4. carried 2500 (today) week 3 i carried over an extra 250 merits, but on balance i should be starting this week on 3625 merits shouldn...

All I know is that it cost me 1310 merits to maintain level 4 in the first week and 1598 the second week! I'm still not sure about these numbers and where are they coming from, especially the 1,598 is a quite irregular number here as rank 4 requires 1,500 merits, if you need to deliver 1,598 merits...
