Random talk about Tea and Me

Postby EmmyJ96 » Wed Jan 31, 2018 11:21 am

So... I live in America. A small town in the state of Iowa, just off a major highway. If you're driving by on this highway, you blink and you've past the town (Granted, it stretches north from the highway, and isn't that wide...). It's a quiet place where much doesn't happen. Almost everyone is the same; but even amongst my diverse group of friends, I am different. I love tea. I have a kettle (I know! Gasp!). I don't drink coffee. I have several cups of tea a day. I have 2 bulk packages of Twinings Earl Grey in my pantry. I drink mainly that and an imported Japanese green tea, but will sometimes drink other teas, as well. But I'm considered weird because of my love of tea. Yet, in the two places in the world I am very interested in, this wouldn't be unusual at all.

If you don't mind, would you enlighten me with your thoughts on tea, and where you live in the world?
I just want to hear this, because I think it could be interesting.

Here in the UK, drinking Tea is a national past time.
Although Earl Grey isn't uncommon, the vast, vast majority consumed is probably technically called English Breakfast Tea; although we just refer to it as Tea :D

My personal favorite is Yorkshire Tea which is a strong, distinctive version.

Because Tea is no much a part of our everyday lives, we do things that I imagine non UK citizens consider strange. Like dunking biscuits or putting 5 sugars in it if you are a builder

Yep, another Brit here.
Living in Yorkshire and drinking Yorkshire tea.
I do take it without milk or sugar which some people find strange, but that's the way I like it.
Personally not a fan of Earl Grey, don't like the flavour.

Norway here.

Like most here I mostly consume coffee.
Quite a bit of it, at least a pot a day.

But I'm not adverse to a mug of green tea, neat no sugar often towards the evening, or a fruity blend with a few sugars in it.

Pennsylvania [US] here.
I dont normally drink "self-made" tea but putting milk in tea sounds strange and like something I'm not sure I'd want to try.

No stranger than putting milk in coffee if you think about it.

HI, another Brit here, drink coffee can drink tea but dont really enjoy it. Love the smell of peppermint tea, but the taste is foul. Had a business trip to Hong Kong many years ago and they put Carnation Milk into tea making it go pink. Very strange

Coffee 99% of the time
