Bounty Hunting in an iCourier

Postby DRPlatus » Mon Nov 20, 2017 10:56 am

Good Day fellow CMDRs,

I have recently unlocked the Imperial Courier, and while I initially wasn't inclined to it, have done some reading and see that it doesn't make a bad ship for BH work, as well as some Empire wetwork possibly (can shoot back at those NPCs interdicting me on Empire missions then as well). I am actually ranking with the Empire for the Cutter, plus they are one the "powers" that I am inclined to support.

Now I am primarily a trader with virtually no combat experience, except running away from it, so this would be my first foray into combat/BH. Guess you have to start somewhere.

Based on my research, I have put together the following build: https://eddp.co/u/fekz5F25

For fire groups, I figured the KWS in the first group, laser in the second, and MCs in the third. Logic behind that is scan, remove shield, remove hull... or something like that!

It is far below my budgeted cost of around 10mil cr, my initial build was just over 10million, I have tweaked it a bit primarly to get power usage below 100%. I do not have access to any Engineers yet, so engineering components is not an option for me at the moment. Not too far from meeting Elvira Martuuk I see, though.

Comments from all welcome, preferably constructive, but will take anything in its' stride. If this is not a viable idea, will just carry on in my current trade/exploration progression.

Farseer is probably an easier unlock, just need to get scout rank and I got that on my second character by mostly driving around surfaces and picking up mats.
Faster if you scan systems.

Farseer is also far more centrally located for return visits and does far more useful mods.
like reactors and thrusters.

Ok, thanks, might aim for Farseer then. Will target Scout rank soon, like I've done with my Empire ranking that got me to Master (so far).

no fuel scoop?

Once you unlock Farseer you will be able to get class 3 advanced thrusters (but $$$)
I personally would drop the SCB and go for a 3C bi weave shield, with as many shield boosters your powerplant can support (not necesarely 0A, Advanced thrusters love a light ship).
Chaff launcher can be good when starting out, but you may end up dropping them as you learn the ship. same for point defence. Most NPCs use dumbfire and it's easy to dodge these.

Remember the iCourrier is a hot mofo, it overheats pretty fast :)

Little tip : if you use it mainly in one location like a CG, or hazres with a nearby station, drop the FSD to a D class and get the smallest fuel tank, drop anything you don't need to storage, and enjoy the added speed :)

Thanks Le Doyen, have made the following changes based on your advice:

Added Fuel Scoop - 2D sufficient?
Changed to 3C BiWeave and removed SCB
Added 1 x 0D Shield Booster - seemed to be the best weight/performance compromise
    Downgraded FSD to D-rated
Downgraded to smallest fuel tank - 1C in this case

Ofc, if I remove the Chaff Launcher and Point Defense, can possibly slot more Shield Boosters in there.

And was wondering, do I really need an Interdictor and Cargo Racks for HazRes/CG sites?

The enhanced thrusters are rather useless.
Just way too much heat and way to high power use.
And if you get dirty drives on regular drives just as quick.

Trying the same on the enhanced thrusters throws heat way out of wack.

Ok, currently have regular 3A Thrusters, not Enhanced, or should I downgrade?

enhanced are much faster, but they are more sensitive to weight. So to really use them properly you got to gut the ship and keep the bare essentials for the mission. Normal thrusters won't be as fast but are more forgiving with ship weight.

Regarding the FSD and fuel tank, remember that's useful when not travelling and staying in the same system for a while. i do that for like a session of BH or a CG then come back to the station to get my A FSD and regular tank to travel back home ;)

Thanks, think I would do that, travel to the BH/CG session with the A FSD and regular tank, then downgrade for the session, and return with the heavy equipment once done. Makes sense.

For this kind of use, absolutely. Otherwise, and if finely tuned, Enhanced + Dirty is a blast. But indeed only for very specific combat tasks (even for trench racing I would prefer an iEagle).
