Horizontal screen tearing after Windows update

Postby GlobusDiablo » Wed Nov 01, 2017 11:39 am

Just downloaded that new Windows update last night and today all my games have horizontal (not vertical) screen tearing.

Tried removing the update to no avail.

Tried messing with settings in-game and in Nvidia control panel (Asus 1080) to no avail.

Not really a computer whizz, so I'm in the dark here guys.

Help!

EDIT:

Found it!

Geforce Experience needed an update as well. Hadn't done so by itself, but all is well again.

2. Edit:

Damn! The tearing is back again today... God I hate Windows updates... :(

3. Edit:

Right.

So after Windows Creators update I can no longer have multiple screens.

And it's not enough to turn one of them off either.

No, I have to disconnect one or the other physically or I get screen tearing on either screen. It's more pronounced in some games than others, and Elite: Dangerous takes the biscuit.

I suppose those with multiple identical G-sync screens won't have this issue. But it's a no go for a PC/TV setup like mine.

Thank you Windows 10 creators update.

Checked v-sync settings ?

Also if that doesn't work can try running the DDU utility and reinstall the Nvidia drivers.

There is however a lot of issues with this one as well so I would wait with the fall update if possible.

Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

Cheers TT. Yeah, checked v-sync. No help. All major games. How do I roll back?

Have you tried setting the Vertical Sync in the NVidea control panel to adaptive? If not this video suggests that for Steam games you add parameters to go windowed borderless. Might be worth trying thos options in game if a normal install as well.

Thanks deC. Will give it a look.

To clear things up; V(ertical)-sync is related to horizontal tearing?

All forms of tearing really.
It's named as such from the good'ol screens that drew the image from top to bottom, and if the game would render a new frame in the middle of such a draw it would look most likely as a horizontal tear.

First get this.

It's a tool for scrubbing all GPU drivers from registery etc an should fix any corruption if this is the case.
There is however all kinds of bugs with this fall update and GPU drivers, primarily Nvidia from what I gather.
I also hear talk of some older drivers being more compatible, personally I'm still on 385 from nvidia, not seen a reason to update yet.

As for rolling back windows, well they keep saying you can, but I have NEVER seen that actually work out for anyone, and either they live with some broken amalgamation of the two versions or they perfrom a complete windows re-install.
Only good new, well re-installing windows has actually not been easier, but of course you will loose all installed software etc etc.

Yeah, I removed it while I used the Vive as it somehow messed up the connection, but after going back to headtracking I thought; why not. But I thought it was supposed to update automatically. Anywho. Fly safe and thanks for the feedback. :)
