Surface mining of craters with a SRV

Another name for this should be "collecting Rocks while doing wheelies with your SRV"
The subject is what will you expect to find in all the various formations that you will come across while ditty bopping on the surface of a planet.
here is what I found while in my buggy: * Note: These are what I found while exploring the interior of craters and there may be more that I have not come across yet.!
HIGH METAL CONTENT PLANETS
Outcrops: cadium
carbon
chromium
sulphur
zinc
zirconium
Iron
molybdenum
nickel
phosphorous
polonium

Bronze Chordite: iron
manganese
nickel
phosphorous
sulphur

Metallic Meteorite: cadium
molybdenum
polonium
zinc

Mesosiderite: zinc
cadium
carbon
nickel
zirconium
also have found data collection points for the federation and for the alliance. Multiple occupied pods also. Found these investigating the radar signatures at the top of the scan.

Well, this is not how it works. You get materials from several, I don't know what it called, but you see it as ("low" grade to "high") Outcrop, Bronzite Whateverite, Mesosomthingite, Meteorite and Metallic Meteorite. Now look at the System Map. For each planet second tab shows elements and its amount in percent.

The higher grade of the source, the more and the rarer elements you will get. For Outcrop you'll get 2-4 pieces of mostly very common elements. Metallic Meteorite will give ~10 pieces with half being rares and higher.

Don't know how to find these high-grade sources, however...

It is really not as complicated as all of this.
The materials available get listed by a detailed scan and presented in the system map.
Rate of drop is dependent of percentage. And what percentage of the planet is metallic.

If for instance you want arsenic. A planet with 20% metallic with 6% arsenic is worse than a planet with 100% metallic and 1.5% arsenic.

Where on a planet surface has no regard on seeding mechanic, it's all RNG.
With a few limits, if the planet has more than one rare it will only spawn one for any instance.
Say you are looking for arsenic but keep finding something else of the same rarity.

Drop to menu and reload the instance.
Yes that's how it works.

keep doing this until you find what you are looking for.

Also covering ground is the best option to finding the most rocks.
The recommended practice is to stay away from craters, canyons, and big ass mountains.
Big flat plains is what you want so you can keep your speed up.
And keep heading at a predetermined direction.
If you run out of flat plane. reload instance and go back again.

There was some hope or expectations that with the new refurbished planet appearance they wold add some logic to this, but in game experience says other wise.

It's all random and impermanent.
And with the new storage system just grab everything and trade for what you need.

Hm... Interesting. Here's the picture of that Tip Off system from other thread. I was getting all the elements in one session, I'm sure about it. Rare elements from Metallic Meteorites (2-3 different rarest elements from a single source, up to 10 pieces total), commons from Bronzites (sometimes with Selenium and Cadmium). As you can see, planet is Icy Body with 15% metal.

Maybe RNG is different at Tip Off location? It expires after 24th of May, we'll see then.Image

It's only the very rare variety that spawns singularly and I can't be bothered to memorise the material details so my examples might be off.

Yeah tip off's can break all the rules, at least for a little while.
A bit like a semi temporary Dav's hope.
