Well USB C adapter worked.....But no Audio to HMD....

Switched back to USB 3 port...…..Same port it come out of and all green again...….Go figure.....

Leaving it there now......Next reboot it will be amber no doubt...…

Well it's OSB or Shadowplay…….

I *MIGHT* try that again.....

Hmmm, might be current draw then. HMDs do suck up quite a bit of power, and DisplayPort provides far less current (designed only to drive a small, active adapter), while HDMI provides none.

USB-C provides 3A (at +5V) at a minimum, while USB-A varies wildly, and mainboards are notorious for under-sizing the current provided to various ports.

Can't hurt to try an externally powered USB 3.0 hub, even if just one device is attached.

Problem with hubs even, USB 3.0 ones is they hardly ever run at full bandwidth, at least not the ones I have tried.

And the rift s needs a lot bandwidth, not just power.
Honestly think the rift should have gone the route of so many other hmd's and include a DC wall adapter.

The pimax for instance comes with a 12v 2amp DC adapter.

I did actually test, while I thought I had a bad cable, the hmd end of the cable for the S and the pimax is the same format.

So tried the S with that cable and a wallplug, not the 12v one but a modular switching one that I had set for 5v.

No love though.
No magic smoke either, and it is working after.
It also didn't seem to be a cable after all.
But a USB issue, some ports on the board give me noise sometimes, others does not.
Even on the same set of ports, like on my mobo I have to ports close to my Ethernet connection and the one closest the rj-45 had issues just one port down no problem.
Subsequent updates has improved and I belive the last one took care of the white flash issue.

Hadn't been using VR much lately cause it's been fucking hot.
And quite frankly Elite hasn't had much to offer in new experiences the last couple of years.

But I have had an issue of minor glitch on occasion when I moved my head in VR and sometimes even if I didn't.

It was just a hunch on my side, but switching back from the 3.1 port to the regular 3.0 USB port sorted it out completely.

Also latest public beta firmware has completely solved the white flashing issue.

That's why I plug my Rift S directly into an XHCI/3.0 port on my computer, and all others into the powered 3.0 hub. ;)

I do the same for my Saitek X-56, plug them into the real EHCI/2.0 ports in my computer, and everything else into a powered 2.0 hub. ;)

TorTorden wrote:And the rift s needs a lot bandwidth, not just power.
That's why it gets a dedicated port on the system, just like the X-56 units too.

Everything else is powered by hubs -- keyboards, mice, etc...

Agreed. It's the reason I don't buy Raspberry Pi units either, but real boards with +12V connectors.

TorTorden wrote:Hadn't been using VR much lately cause it's been fucking hot.
Part of the reason I have a window unit (to keep it <24C/75F) and a tall fan (to keep airflow).

Here's more to VR than Elite.

I had the mic on the rift cut out completely yesterday, had to replug the hmd for it to work, as for the sound I don't use or have used the HMD audio since the very first boot up of the thing so can't really comment.

Btw, get your butt on discord, you have warthog to teach to me to fly

I use headphones plugged into the Rift...…

Might just plug them into PC instead...….

Warthog...…

About the only thing I can teach you in that is how to crash in style...…

I was just getting into DCS when ED popped up.....So dumped DCS.....

I would need an overlay of the cold start now......And didn't quite get the hang of weapon selection and targeting at all...

As said dumped it for ED...….And that was before the Rift CV1...…..

I had the a10a (the easy non clicky verdion.)

Most memorable moment in that was dropping a mk82 at 400 feet.

The splash back kills my left turbine, so naturally I immediately drop another...
That kills the right turbine.

Managed to make a 90 degree turn and set her down in a farmers field.

Haven't focused much on the hog though since I have the harrier, ok it doesnt carry as much, and it's not, BRRRRRRRRT, but it cruises in on target at 450 knots.

And then there's is the f18, the f14, seriously the f14 in VR. It's utterly amazeballs.

And they are making an f16.

Newest PTC update to the S should take care of the USB driver warning.

Also.

RIO wanted.
