GPU reccomendations?

Alright, my GTX 970 is completely worthless now. Literally anything at all that I play on it tosses out of video memory errors and closes. I need recommendations on an affordable GPU of at least similar spec. I think I might be leaning towards something AMD after dealing with the mess NVidia caused this time. Until I find something, I have to stick with Intel's in-built graphics, and thus cannot really play.

Radeon RX480 if you're tight on budget.

Well it might be a step backwards, but I have to say I am impressed with the GTX 1050Ti. Then again, I upgraded from a GTX 650 so its like Night and Day. Have not had any experience with the AMD since ATi was Canadian, so that is going back a ways. PC Perspective is a decent site for comparing models, but not Graphics specific.

Really in this day and age, the hardware unless you arre going top end, is decent on both sides. Software/Drivers are more my worry. Both have had stinkers a lot lately.

The price equivalent of the 970 today is the 1070, and that performs nearly on par with a 980ti, a 1050ti like Lori has can most likely handle elite at most settings at 1080p or more.

In this case I would recommend maybe going for a 1060, it would be an upgrade to the 970 and hopefully not break the bank.

Or you could try finding a used 9x0 series card.

I'm enjoying life now using a Gtx 1060 3gb.
I thought long and hard what to buy, the 1050 ti or the 1060. Luckily enough my budget covered the jump in price.
My 660 ti served me well. Hopefully this card will keep me happy for over 4 years to.

Well, the budget is very very low. The 970 is only 4 months old, and already totally useless. Reference card (founder's edition) and Nvidia is not standing by any warranty due to the lawsuit regarding the memory issues. I need to keep what I am spending on the low end of a budget, because this has pretty much trashed my spending budget for the computer. I will look in to a 1060

I find it weird that you have out of memory error on 970. I've been abusing mine for a year now and it never misbehaved despite running everything on high settings.

I'm not a fan of Radeon after years of putting up with one in my previous gaming laptop. So I'd echo those who mentioned a 1050 GTX if you are on a budget but if you can stretch it a bit, get a 1060 or better. I did find a review for the Palit cards which seem to be budget minded.
