Dunno what medium you have the win 10 install on but I would suggest using the ms supplied tool to create a usb installer.
This will download the install image directly and in its entirety.
So it is a couple of gigs to download.
Reason why I recommend this is because that image seemed to be fully updated.
So when I did this for my new htpc setup there wasn't 2000 windows updates waiting to download, install, fail to install only to try again.

Well that's a way off at the moment......

It won't even boot to bios.....

Stopping with an error and the VGA light remains lit......

Bios beeps indicate no vga detected.......

No lights on card apart from the 2 white leds saying it has optimum power......

Mobo is well juiced with the 24 pin + the 8 pin....Even threw in the other 4 pin just in case......

No go........

Not sure if it was the card or the mobo.......

Swapped out the 970 from this box......Exactly the same......The MSI did not even light up......

Tried the 8x pcie........Same.........

Swapped the mobo to another rail...Just in case.....Same.......

Now getting bios beeps to indicate no vga followed by Hardware component failure.......

Looks like the mobo is fucked.....Which is complete shit as I will have to remove the water cooler to get it out and then obviously everything else.......

And I have not got any thermal paste.....

Over the moon Jim........Over the moon.......

Other than the Rift, I'm actually on old tech ...

tinnitus wrote:@thebs thank-you for the information. Reading the (thin) Monitor docs they write active sync(freesync) throughout the user manual never use freesysnc by itself. Did not know it is a protocol. I'm going to try it at the fixed rate and crank it up just because. Chit 90Hz that should be enough for games.

I'm at the point where my next 'gaming monitor' is likely going to be a 4K TV that does 1080@120Hz (fixed) over HDMI 2.0. There are a few out there, although the input single v. actual refresh is not always 120Hz. The technology in the panel is getting faster, better, cheaper everyday.

For now I'm still using 2010-era, 27" 1440p@60Hz 10-bit color IPS panels as well as my 2014 original UHD 28" 4K@60Hz 6-bit color TN, plus a cheap 42" 3D 1080 TV (720@120Hz for 3D). I really have been avoiding upgrading any monitors or TVs because of the regular improvements and price drops in 4K.

That ... plus ... my Oculus Rift CV1.

Rufus USB Creator

Always Rufus ... far, far better USB creator ... especially for native uEFI boot. The Microsoft USB tool doesn't often setup the USB correctly with uEFI+GPT. Heck, it'll create even a bootable FreeDOS if you need it for older boards/firmware updating.

Microsoft got really stupid with the lack of Service Packs in installers. At least they are going to keep updating Windows 10. They've finally realized the OS isn't the money maker, and more of the commodity. It's really Office and Cloud services, especially subscription (annual) based.

Troubleshooting PC assembly ...

Bios beeps indicate no vga detected.......

Things to try ...
- Reset CMOS Jumper ... will reset configuration (this is always the first thing I try, and it often works)
- Unplug everything ... all drives, both power and data, all USB headers (this has got me more than once), everything ... other than MB power
- Start looking for 'shorts' from the MB standoffs to the board, the CPU fan mounting, etc...

- Take all add-in cards out ... assuming the CPU has its own Integrated Graphics Processor (IGP), and plug in video to the on-mainboard
- Reset the CMOS Jumper (this often solves the "IGP only" setting, or reverts back to it -- you want "Auto" or "PEG" -- PCI-Express Graphics)
- Keep everything else unplugged, sans the MB power and the monitor to the on-mainboard video

Thermal paste is available at any local computer store.
Might not be the best, but it should do the job.
Also try a traditional cooler to start ... a local computer store may have a low-cost one to try.

Also ... is your MB and its default firmware version rated for the CPU?
I've had that chicken-egg issue before myself ... have to upgrade the MB to support the CPU, but cannot boot to do so.

@thebs

Yep tried most of that.....

Nothing connected to Mobo except power and water pump and fan....

I have to have the vid card in as no onboard.......

CMOS has been cleared several times.....

BIOS flashed and updated to latest.....

Everything re-seated at least twice.....

Even CPU cooler loosened right up as this apparently can cause problems if too much pressure on CPU......

Still fucked...

@Dawg

Just really pissed off mate....

I have Monday off as I paid extra for it to be delivered Monday.....Might as well have saved my money.....

So I'm just sitting here looking at £2500 of non working shit.......

With a strapped wrist that is killing me........

Oh and icing on the cake.........My co-pilot has just been given a max of 6 months to live......

Fooking blinding.....

Sorry to hear that mate. Had a similar case with my Mobo a couple of months ago but it was the power supply that fried both BIOS flash chips although it was beeping no VGA detected (Mobo had also VGA on board!)
