Vive FPS has tanked :(

Postby smartroad » Sun Aug 28, 2016 6:12 pm

I am only getting between 30 and 80fps with the settings at low! Before I was getting 90FPS pretty constant on nearly ultra settings :( Not sure what has changed, going to see how I downgrade the Nvidia driver first see if that helps :(

Had an instance today where I was approaching secure settlement and fps dropped to 45-50 in the rift.

Setting shadows to low helped a little but what sorted it was to simply restart the game.

I assume you have but figured I could mention it.
Also there has been a few cases where the games fps drops because of network activity or slow network responses.

reboot, roll back video driver, restart game, graphics on low preset - nothing the FPS is just tanking as soon as the hanger loads. On low I am getting about 50fps looking at the SRV and up to 90 when I look at the ceiling :( Fucking technology, everything was working then 'updates' happen and everything bloody stops working.

Elite is the only game that it is having issues with though.

Figured it out, my mate was playing arund with the settings and set the supersampling to 2 in the Vive settings (not in game) and Elite really doesn't like it on my machine!

Wow, with SS 2 I'm surprised it only tanked that much.

Could do and play ok if you also drop ingame supersampling to below 1x.
Image improved quite a bit for me when I used steam upsampling of 2.0 and ingame down sampling of 0.65.
For some odd reason that both performed better and looked better than just 1x.

Glad you got it straightened out. I was about to fire up my Vive and E-D when I saw this thread and thought "oh crap, what now?". ;)
