Glad to hear it. :) I'm just really confused atm. regarding whether I should go for one or the other, or wait entirely...

And what's this about a "newer" Vive already?

It is theorized to be a headstrap update. Most of the suppliers involved have to do with that kind of thing. One of the main complaints about the Vive is the lack of integrated audio and the head strap. An improved headstrap could improve the product for a lot of people.

Yeah I would be very very suprised if this is anymore than a minor update.
Especially considering even 1080's aren't capable of really pushing high quality vr at 90 fps yet. I doubt they would make a higher resolution display yet.

Would need at least another two maybe three generations of GPU's to even be looking at individual 4k displays in an HMD.

This is what I was hoping for in a 1.5 version of the Vive, a little bit of needed polish.

I absolutely think it's to soon to declare anything regarding Oculus.
They just simply have too much money at hand, still they have bungled both their initial delivery, focus of their product being on 180° seated experiences without touch, actually delivery of the product and the marketing of said product.

Just take my country, the rift is absolutely nowhere to be found, there is zero advertising and the only people who now even know what oculus is are the same subset of nerds who has been following them from kickstarter and have no love for Facebook.

Whereas the htc vive. Marketing is everywhere to the point now that you say "vr" regular Joe ( or Ola in our case) immediately associate it with the vive.
And they are being sold by the same shops that carry tv's, laptops and dishwashers.
So the only way to even get a rift is to order through their international website, something most Norwegians are utterly loathe to do.
Sure we shop like crazy online but we like to keep it inside the border (even though most of them run their warehouses out Sweden or Germany)

Anyhoo what I'm saying is Oculus really fumbled their launch and need to step it up. Hard.

And truthfully I find the oculus store's library just plain sad, barren, overpriced and honestly not much better polished than the hundreds of VR titles on Steam that often cost half as much.

But Facebook has plenty of money so I'm sure they're not going anywhere, and hopefully they can figure out how to do things as they go.

In fact as a business HTC needs their product to work a lot more than Oculus.

Yup.

I hate facebook more than anybody, but I wouldn't let that association keep me from buying a Rift - same for DRM or locked titles (I've never pirated a game, and though not a "gamer", it seems that games have been locked to platforms for years). Facebook has more money than they know what to do with, so if they pour some into VR development, I suppose it's possible that they will really advance the tech. I'm not too concerned about these early sets, but when the tech matures, I'll only be looking at performance and cost more than anything else.

Maybe the Rift is having problems now, but I doubt Oculus is going away anytime soon. Saying they are dead seems a little ridiculous.
It's time to give this another go.
