Excellent! Will be interesting to see what you get in the Vive.

Yes, most are well cooled. But compared to the GTX 1080, the GTX 980 Ti is major power hog and heat generator.

TorTorden wrote:My old amd gpu before it hit 90c almost by just turning the darn thing on.
I was only comparing GTX 1080 to GTX 980Ti.

TorTorden wrote:On the other hand there is a bug with the latest drivers from nvidia, steamvr/vive and Elite dangerous.
I get some light twinkling in the edges but there seem to be much worse for 1080 owners.
Like this https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthrea ... -of-Screen
I haven't bothered downgrading drivers yet which seem to fix it for other 980ti owners but not so much for the newer cards.
Part of the reason I haven't moved to pick up a Vive, while I'm still in the Rift queue (still with no estimated date at all). I'm waiting for either the Vive driver situation to improve, or the Rift to finally ship.

We'll see.

The GTX 1070 is finally dropping to under $400, although quantities are still very hard to find and acquire at that price point. But hopefully we'll see ones at the $379 list price point.

Not really a consideration at allif you have a GTX 980 Ti, and even the GTX 980 isn't that much slower, but if you're on a GTX 970 or lower, oh, definitely.

Even with ultra and 1.5 super sampling I am getting 90+ everywhere.

Never brought a high end card before, I baulk at spending more then £150 for any single component, but this is an amazing bit of kit.

According to 3D mark it scored twice the minimum levels for VR :)

I never paid more than US$220 for a video card sans once prior ... in 2004 I dropped $399 for the brand new GeForce 6800GT AGP. The second most I had ever paid for a video card was, again, US$220 for a GeForce 660Ti on black friday in 2012.

I broke that rule by spending US$375 on the GTX 970 on black friday in 2014.
Then I got another one, the Mini-ITX length (170mm/6.7") GTX 970 for a portable in 2015 for just over US$300.
I finally went overboard when the GTX 980 Ti cards hit US$500 after MIR back in April, and given the pricing right now, I'm not unhappy I did.

I'm at the point that $400 is reasonable for a solid video card, especially to support VR.
I buy two (2), one for me and one for my wife ... I have two (2) gaming mouths to feed. ;)

But, I used to spend up to $1,500 for a gaming notebook, and remember dropping $2,200 in 2001 for the first, Toshiba with the GeForce Go. Understand I've been nearly 100% travel since the early '00s, but I now carry small (7x9x11") Mini-ITX systems, and just plug them into the hotel's HDTV via HDMI these days.

So running the 1080 at 2,012MHz pretty constant :D In ultra at 1920x1080 fps never drops below 120fps and temperature is a stable 62C. Pretty happy with it so far!
