triple screen setup

Now that my new PC has settled down, its time to get it working a little harder. Although playing AC on high detail gets it heating up a bit! 
I am thinking of getting another couple of monitors, and although they will also be cable of displaying 4k, I know that will be a bit too much of an ask, even for 2 x GTX 980's
So, do I run them in 1080p or does it have to be lower? Not sure how it will look, and will I have to infact lower the res on the existing 4k monitor?
