Any benefit to a clean install?

Looking toward Tuesday and the release of Horizons, I'm wondering if there's benefit in uninstalling ED (and Steam) and doing a fresh install with the 64-bit version (straight from FD)? I've a ton of hard drive space - and have backups of my bindings and HUD graphics files... but does it make sense to go with completely fresh code? Opinions and insights welcome!

From looking into the folder structure it seems ed and ed:h use separate folders so no matter what you are probably looking at a 7gig download.
If downloading isn't a problem you could always try what's easier first and then try a fresh install later if you run into problems.

Thanks. The separate folder structure for ED:H is something I hadn't considered - but multiple folders schemes is one of the things I'm thinking could use some cleanup. FD installs in one set of folders, Steam in another (with part of ED inside the Steam structure), now ED-H in yet a third. Problem? Probably not. But shifting from the 32-bit to the 64-bit versions seems a logical time to clean things up, since it's going to be huge download one way or the other. Seems I've got bits and pieces of ED scattered all over my computer, much potentially redundant (considering there's also a host of beta files). But other than bindings and HUD config files... anything that would also need preservation? Any disadvantages? I've got lots of space, but some folks might not, so considering the pros and cons seems appropriate.

7 gigs, quite a blob to download. Did the downloader use p2p for downloads? Could be useful thing on Tuesday when a horde of non-steam "elitists" start their downloads..

Was thinking of recording my ED:H stats.. downloading the game and then if it changes than make a back up then delete reg ed folder.. if can't play restore from back up and try to find what I can keep and what I can get rid of

Most but not all configuration files is in the %appdata%../local/frontier development/ folder.
And I have noticed that for example changing graphics settings while in horizon beta are applied when launching regular ed, well as long as the setting exist in both.
That said I don't think it's necessary to clean up, it would certainly not hurt to do so if you feel like it.

I have a simple question, but don't want to create another topic for that :
I don't remember to have pre-ordered 64 bits version specifically, will I have a 64 bits version anyway

or should I cry

Isn't 1.5 in both 32 and 64?
