It's even stronger than my GTX780... :(

But not by much.:)

Go for the 970 if you really need it now otherwise wait until Christmas when the prices will/should drop.

I'm playing with an ATI 7850 1gb and an Fx 6300 (O/C to 3800) and it runs pretty good (40fps in stations, 60 fps everywhere else) with everything on max.

You might like to read this thread if you're interested: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showth ... t=18624935

I'm waiting for Skylake next year and then I'll probably switch to Nvidia but who knows what AMD will counter with?

I'd really like a 27" 144mhz monitor first before going the Nvidia route. If G-Sync monitors are still expensive then a Free-sync monitor might persuade me to stick with AMD.

One thing I considered for myself is the current trend towards 4k resolution!
As the first Nvidia 9xx generation "can" support 4k I personally wait until we see real good support for 4k (maybe early next year?)... thus I upgrade to a GTX 770 4GB which could also run 4k at least from the RAM and wait until we see how well the 9xx handles 4k. Then I will decide if the 770 is sufficient or I want to go the 970/980 way.
With current FullHD resolution the 770 4GB is perfect even with TrackIR, everything on max. I do not count frames, but it's smooth and no noticeable tearing.
One other thing to consider is power consumption, as the 9xx has a far superior core architecture the power requirement is drastically reduced! So if you need to upgrade your PSU to support a GTX 770, you may stick with your current PSU when buying a GTX 970.

Hope I could help with that decision.
And thanks for initiating this PvE Group! It was exactly what I'm looking for. I never was the "Killer/dogfighter" type. Most of the little time I spent in Elite Dangerous, yet, I was trading and dodging any USS for the first encounters all lead to a glowing debris field in space...
I'm more interested in exploring, trading and other less aggressive ways in the spirit of "Firefly/Serenity"!
Hope this group will attract lots of players with a like mind.

145w for the 970 as opposed to 230w for the 770...

970...if you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up!

If anyone can guess the film from the paraphrased reference, you can have some major respect. :)

I'm well happy with mine since I took the plunge!

I have 2 x GTX 580 in my machine, so far so good, but may be coming up for an upgrade as they are now about 4 years old.
