Could you give us the exact wording of the error? And it's when you are trying to download NE, right?

What is the card showing as in Device Manager?

nothings showing up. My guess is I damaged the card taking it out of my old (now) PC. If I yanked it too hard maybe I damaged the PCB. Only thing I can think of is that solder re-flow in the oven trick.

I actually got Elite running on the on board Graphics but the Space Port was on 12 fps. Surprised it ran at all. Had to quit the game after a minute, no point really.

But I installed my Digital Audio Workstation (Sonar X3 Producer if anyone's interested) and it's flying through that, so silver linings eh?

Absolutely!

Although, when I did my first one, way back when, I had the horror of assembling it all, switching it on and......fans powered up and......nothing! Was it the MB, the CPU, the RAM? Eeesh...not a good feeling! Turned out the RAM wasn't properly seated.

A quick question for you...the video card must be doing something in order to get a signal to the monitor? Or are you viewing things using the on-board graphics? Do the fans on the GPU spin up? All I can suggest is to make sure it's properly seated (see above)...including that annoying clip at the end of the PCI slot. Finally, and don't take offence at this...the GPU is definitely in the yellow PCI slot and has the additional 2 power leads attached to it?

I put the Asus installation disc back in and looked around under the graphics bit. Installed a few more bits. Switched the PC off. Plugged the GPU in. Fired her up.

All there! Installed GeForce. Updated drivers.

Loaded Elite and started playing. 40 fps in the station (low settings)! Before I was lucky to get 14! Same GPU (EVGA GT 740 SC... yeah, bit low end, I know...). Amazed at the difference it makes on playing with my T-Flight HOTAS, much more responsive. May go for mid settings as I can settle for 30 fps in graphically busy areas, I'll see how that goes...

So thanks to all for the help and advice from our fellow Commanders and hopefully see you out there.
