Elite: Dangerous PvE - Mobius

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has a GTX960 they could give their opinion on. I am looking to upgrade from my ATI 7850 as I would like to really use my 3 monitors when out flying on better settings than 'low' What sort of FPS are you getting? Currently I get about 30-40fps when sitting in a station with mostly high settings and at 1920x1080.

I was thinking the 4GB version but not really sure if that would be any benefit over the 2GB, other than costing about £50 more. According to the PassMark site it offers almost twice the performance of my 7850 (7850 = 3737 marks, 960 = 5997)

Hi. I can only tell you about my GTX970 4GB. At 2560x1440 sitting in a station with all maxed out settings I get 70-80fps depending where I'm looking. Outside the station it can be twice that. But I normally have v-sync on and max frame rate set to 60. Today in about 3 hours of playing I never saw it drop below 60fps. I think the 960 is about 1/3 less powerful, so I think it should handle 1920x1080 just fine, but maybe not a 3-monitor setup (just a guess).

That's with supersampling set at 1.0. At 1.5 it cuts the FPS in about half. And it look great at 2.0, but the FPS drops even more. I think that at 1.0 it looks acceptable, but at .75 it looks like crap. I think I'm going to experiment at 1.5 for a while and see how it works outside the station. You may want to check your supersampling setting and see how it affects the looks and FPS.

You're going to want the 970 with a triple monitor setup.

Due to financial constraints (I believe the words were "Your NOT spending that much on the computer" LOL) I have had to go with the 960 Still offers a good 150-170% improvement over my current setup so not too bad. I may sneak in another purchase at a later date an look at SLI two together.

smartroad, does your motherboard support sli? I found mine doesn't so I am screwed and have to put up with my GTX 650 till I can upgrade.

It says it does... Its an 'old' Sandy Bridge chipset

Aye nearly all Sandy Bridge boards support SLI, - most important thing with SLI or Multi GPU cards besides motherboard compatibilty - is the Power Supply, if you are going to go the SLI route then you will most likely need to upgrade your PSU also - 800W or higher I would say. So you would need to factor that into the cost of going SLI also.

I say nearly all - as most Micro-Atx boards usually only have 1 PCIExpress 16x slot

I have a full ATX so def not got that issue

FYI: the current version of ED only uses one card in a system with SLI. I was disappointing to find that out when pairing 2 970's. still plays great on one though.
