Can't chat with other players

Hi,
I'm having problems initiating a chat with other players. Well it's not that big of a problem as I hardly see other human players anyway
Everytime I try to send a message to an online friend I only get an error "Transmission not sent; unable to connect to ...". The strange thing is, that I can answer him if he's the one starting the chat. Has anyone run into this problem before?
I've read some tips on the official forum for problems with Multiplayer etc. but that involved entering your IP in one of the config files. And that's not really feasible for me as I have a dynamic IP.

Occasionally it occurs to me too.
No idea what causes the problem.

I'm glad it isn't just me then. I got paranoid and thought everyone was blocking me on their chat because........I'm er....umm....ahhh.

it seems that friends chat works like normal chat: it works only if both cmndrs are in the same system ...

Nope. My friend was sending me messages from over 100 LY away.

It works from any distance. When a friend contacts me I also need to select him from the list and set text chat before I can answer. Need to repeat this every time it disconnects.

Ok, I've now tried this:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11361It does help, I was finally able to chat with my friend. The only problem is still that I'll need to update my IP in the config file all the time. Hope they implement a permanent fix.

Since Patch 1.04 even the changes to the xml file don't help anymore. I've tried a lot of different combinations, but I can't chat with anyone anymore. It's really annoying. I've read that FD is aware of the problem, but still ...
