Prospecting planets

Anyone in beta can tell me if prospecting planets is still bugged?
It seems whenever I'm in empire space planets yield very little and signals just disappear or are clipped under the ground which I'm beginning to think is a possible answer, spent over an hour again and managed to get approx 5 outcrops out of maybe 15-20 strong zeroed in signals and when you're on a planet that is far from flat, scanning the horizon for the rocks that stand out is nigh on impossible.. "Sigh"
