Communication Breakdown.

ED introduced a system wide text/mic facility in Beta 2 but I don't understand it.

I think I've received two messages from Cmdrs but I've only been aware of them when logging out. As one had 'Good afternoon...' in its content and, by the time I logged off it was well into the night I presume it had sat there for a long time and I was blissfully unaware of it (sorry Cmdr N!).

I certainly didn't see it in game to be able to reply straightaway, so what's the point of it? Or am I yet again (sigh) missing something obvious?

Whenever I've been able to get in to the game I've experienced the same. If you're missing something then so am I. I'm also interested to see if anyone can shed some light on this.

I agree that comms are still broken. Just not good enough yet. To say the least.

At the moment, it's just too easy to miss it when someone sends you an in game text chat. It appears in the top left Comms panel but gets buried in the fire zone/npc waffle, unless you actually see it appear. The game definitely needs some sort of audible incoming message notification. Maybe even a little icon that stays there until you clear it to say message received.

Yeah. And maybe different coloured slightly brighter text.

I really hope they implement comm channels, rather than strict p2p. I rather like how other MMOs like EVE Online and Start Trek online do it. Where are galaxy wide shared channels, system channels, group channels and all that. It really helps with communications.
