I don't remember either but I think it was about 6-7 hours downtime.
They take down server, apply the patch and then they test it internal. And if I don't recall wrong they found some problems that held it back for some hours.

I expect anything from 2 - 8 hours downtime

And il guess we also need to dl a new launcher when that becomes available.

Now that I brought a cobra and have applied my wireframe paint job, I would be looking forward to Beta 2. I hope they do not wipe before it.

To be honest though what I am really looking forward to is planetary landings.

I'm always ready for the next build!

EVA is my main attraction for future expansions, but landing on planets, then getting out of my ship, off-loading a small personal hovercraft, then tooling around the surface exploring every mountain range, sea shore and valley while hunting... I mean... cataloging each giant alien rodent I stubble across will be the ultimate experience. Something I've been waiting to do in games for over 30 years.

Can't wait for planetary exploration either, but I've got the feeling that we'll have to be patient, for that.

Yes often when I fly past a planet I wonder would it be so cool to fly down to it's surface.

My main critique of ED at the moment is that on release it will not have this. Perhaps it may have been worth delaying the release a year for it and having it as part of the core of the game rather than an expansion, if that would have been done and executed well then all reviews would have been stellar and the game would still be released before SC. But of course it needs to be done very well as doing planetary landings badly or with cutscenes would be terrible.
