Or not, as the case may be?...

Fly safe commanders. :)

But then you wouldn't be able to fly with us...

True that my friend. I fly in open play mostly though. Gives a bit more edge. :) I just think this group of PvE commanders is top notch. :)

Having an Offline mode (which was promised in Kickstarter), would mean that I could play the game whenever I wanted, internet or no.

More significantly, I would be able to play the game after FD close the game servers a couple of years from now. As it stands now, none of us actually have the game. We have a launcher/client, and access to FD servers.

Why would they close the servers in two years ? I play flight sims which have way less players than Elite ( World War 1 planes ) and the servers have been on for 5 years now and no plan to stop them. :)

Is your WW1 game without Offline mode?

I hope you are right of course.

My point is, that I prefer to own the game I buy. Right now, I just bought access to FD servers.

I played Frontier: Elite 2 for more than 20 years on and off. When I liked. It was/is my game. I own it.

When FD shut the servers be it 2, 5 or 10 years from now, "my" game is gone.

And let's not forget the other point of interest. Being able to play the game without internet.

Strictly speaking and to be absolutely and unnecessarily pedantic, you don't own any software, including your computer's OS. What you spent good money on was the licence to use the software and the medium, if any, on which the software was supplied. Technically, the owner of the software can cancel the licence if the T&Cs are breached, although I can't recall any publicity over such a withdrawal. You'll find full details on page 253 of the EULA.

Regarding ED, Frontier have said that it didn't prove feasible to build a mechanism that could blend offline action with the real-time changes the online process has to accommodate. Imagine the difficulties of trying to reconcile the divergence a week of offline play would create with the equally morphing big picture. Then multiply that by a thousand offline players.

As do a number of even more unpleasant adjectives.

What is your point friend. My post is regarding an Offline mode. What is your argument?
