Yeah, sod the slave trade :P. If the Mobius station was in Alliance or Independent space I'd probably have visited already :D. Actually, likewise for Federal space but I'm not so interested in joining them. Still, at least they're not poncy, slave-using Imps ;).

I'm against slavery too, but there's a misconception about the slavery in the Empire: unlike in the Federation, it's always voluntary and never forced (for example children born from slaves in the Federation are slaves too, while children born from slaves in the Empire are free). IMO it should have been named differently, in the Empire.

someone from FD or their forum mod team likened it to joining the army; you sign on for X years and do whatever you're told during that time

and it is up to your new 'owner' to fix up whatever social or financial pooh you got yourself into that caused your sudden career change in the first place. when your term is up, you have a clean slate with no debts or obligations

Aye slavery in the Empire is more like the old concept of a Bondsman, an indentured servant who works off a debt - once the debt is clear they are free, people choose to be Bondsmen in the Empire - in the Federation they don't have the choice - nor can they ever be free.

Yep, people really don't understand that Slavery in Empire is very different than regular slavery. so Imperial Slaves is more of an opportunity for people to see the galaxy and relocate somewhere and for that benefit there is a services required of them for a period of time. I'm sure some of the conditions or treatment is still not ideal, but its nothing like federation or normal slavery (imprisoned, born into it, kidnapped, abused, raped, etc.).

And I'm saying all this about how real this fictional world is! (I really need to get a life! :-))

I was under the impression that slavery was generally illegal in the Federation...are there some systems where they're okay with it, then? Presumably those are the ones with, you know, less security and Federal presence?
