CQC Conclusion

Based on my personal experiences with the terrible execution of a splendid idea (FD obviously have no idea of the basic cornerstones of a PvP arena game), and the dated dates of posters in this forum, would you agree that CQC is officially dead?

I originally dabbled a tiny bit near to its launch, but due to it being mostly disconnected from the live verse I quickly lost interest.

I decided last month to give it another go as it wasn't actually too bad. However leaving it searching for a game for over 5 minutes on all three game modes, I would agree that it's pretty much dead. Some folks do still play it, but I cant bring myself to wait while it hunts for a game for 5-10 minutes.

I'd say good riddance, but the last time I checked, there was one permit-locked system in the real game that can only be accessed if you make all the way to level 50 in CQC.

I haven't tried it since my first 15 minutes.
Nothing I've heard since makes me want to try it again, even though FD keep promoting it. :|

I think it could be popular if they made a few changes. Make it an in-game feature. Fly your ship to a system with an arena, wing up, and start playing - either against your wingmates or against another wing (even in Mobius). Maybe have the option to fly your own ships (minus the insurance charges) or fly the provides ships. I'd find it more realistic if it was simulated damage rather than actually blowing up thousands of ships, but of course you still fly real ships and can be damaged if you crash. That's just a few thoughts.

The core game has too many bolt-ons that are not homogeneous.

I often wonder what the game would be like now if developer resources had not been wasted on PowerPlay and CQC (and Engineers, come to that)
