In games people acquire an emotional attachment because they have been taken through a story, can place a character or faction in context. To some degree in ED the Empire vs. Federation vs. Alliance has this because they have been in the game for years, so people can "get them".

The problem with PP is that the Powers were just dumped on us, we went from nothing to PP overnight, they don't have the story or context for player to feel attached to them. In situations like this, there is no reason to put up with the effects of being pledged, and as such the inconveniences far out way anything you might get from being pledged.

I agree.
We think very much alike. :)

What would a power be like, for you to feel more emotionally involved?

Yes, to both.

The problem for me has always been the complete disconnect between the each character's major faction affiliation and the exploitation of any system; there is no consideration given to extending the Empire/Federation/Alliance, just take whatever is available. To my mind, this has made these rather thin characters no more than mafia godfathers.

The various attributes - strong against this, weak against that, etc - is equally unconvincing and arbitrary; it just comes across as a device to make each Power's progress "interesting".

Unfortunately, in the main areas of habitation you can't avoid them: they modify markets and drive up unwelcomed visitations that can interfere with local politics.

Perhaps the two modes of play will be reconciled when the player groups get promoted from localised politics to Power Play. When that happens, at least at first, the fledgling Powers will operate out of systems that they own and control and with which they have a direct relationship. What Power Play should have been from the start.

This is a picture I also have used in my head, of the Power Play leaders.

But never mind the factions that exist.
If should creat a whole new faction/power: What would it be like?

The problem with the way it's been integrated like you say - not from a story line, but more for the extra module unique to x power - that's the drive those shiney bits that say you have taken to the grind!

That's the end goal for The Order of Mobius.
If FD could ever get the bgs sorted so the mechanics actually would work. .

Sandboxes often have light storylines in order to encourage players to create their own storylines. I wager the reason some don't feel emotionally invested in their chosen power is related to this.

That is part of it, but if your actions have no/little or wrong affect on the game all the stories in the world, or in this case Blue Haired Princesses ain't gonna cut it.

What kind of power do you think Mobius would be like?
I'm VERY new here.
