How to love the Python?

Postby CMDR Dragonporn » Sat Feb 16, 2019 2:25 am

To avoid any confusion, I'm curious about ship here, not the snake.

Been running 3 ships for a while now, and I'm madly in love with them, but the problem is, non of them is true multi-purpose, but it would be very convenient to have one. Spent some time looking at different ships, comparing looks, stats and etc. Python really stands out. I mean it does look like an oversized Viper... in a way, and in terms of utility, it's like mini-Conda. But it's hard to argue that both interior and exterior design is rather slick and cozy. By stats, however, meaning number and classes of slots, vessel size, agility and overall combat capability are quite amazing. The thing is, while flying it, I don't feel that oomph! I do from my other ships, it feels quite ordinary, stale.

Would like to hear from pilots who enjoy and truly adore Python: what makes this ship so special to you? What you particularly like about it? What jobs or roles are you using it for?

And talking about roles, I'm still not sure how I want to build this ship. I do want it to be multi-purpose, but any fun build suggestions? Would be nice to see.

The Python is King of outpost missions, it is a powerful fighting ship, yes there are better but she is worth it a great ship for most things.
Good weapons loadout, no power plant problems wicked machine. Speed is not an issue could use a better FSD and 2 more util mount slots. A fun ship to fly so sweet.

One huge plus of the Python when it comes to visuals is that it has a clean and dark cockpit. It's one of the few ships that actually gets truly dark inside. Other than that, I feel the ship is... quite butt-ugly. It sounds generic and has nothing that really stands out.

I use mine for mining and cargo hauls as it has the highest cargo capacity of any medium ship and plenty of hardpoints.

A good multipurpose ship is one that you should enjoy using but also being in. That's why I love my Clipper so much - it's so fun to fly and it looks incredible.

Python is a good miner, not sure if I see it as butt ugly but compared to a Clipper I can see why. I fly a T7 now that is ugly I use it for short (500-2500LY) trips. Clipper do not own one (I did) about to change that now.

The cockpit is quite bad when it comes to visibility. For a medium ship it's a bit sluggish on the controls, but for cargo and mining, who cares really. The only thing it has over the Krait MK2 is its cargo space (bear in mind i don't do combat).

I personally prefer the Krait for the reason Quinnlyn mentionned. I love being in that ship. Python's cockpit is just too damn ugly and stale for my taste.

It was great, back when pretty much the only really profitable thing to do was a-b trading.

As for combat, this was also back when the AI would freeze and stop dead when it got hit by more than three guns at once..

Manouverability wasn't a problem when most targets where stationary.

Who says you need to love every ship?

I personally find both asps utterly useless for any task.
The anaconda isn't fit to be a garbage scow and the fer-de-lance is utterly terrible at combat, the new Mamba is even worse.

Yeah the medium pad trading is good.

Combine that with the new deep core mining which it's better at than a cutter.

For instance, most of the stations I found with a good price for void opals was outposts.
And their demand is small.

If you filled up a cutter and dumped it, the price for them would halve.
A python still would take an hour or so to fill up, so the cutter almost eight.

I personally been playing on my alt account lately and spent a week ice mining, no more than an hour or so a day.

But each trip was 120+ mil.
So in less than seven days I had a billion credits and elite in trade.
