How annoying...

Postby de Carabas » Sun Jan 06, 2019 7:44 pm

My smug meter was maxing out earlier. I had 16 tons of Void Opals on board after a a really good, quick mining run which felt good. Then on the way to sell them and make a bucketload of cash along comes a pirate. I thought “I know i’ll drop out of frame shift before he can start interdicting me”, which I did and started boosting away and preparing to jump. My smug feeling lasted about 3 seconds as he dropped in right in front of me and I plowed into his exhaust pipes and destroyed myself. Sometimes a low shield mining build does not pay off :P

The moral of the story? No idea. I was just annoyed so wanted to share.

Yup.

Fighting the interdiction is actually the smart move these days.

Man, that sucks de Carabas. :(

I agree with Tor. I fight every interdiction (unless I'm in a combat ship and looking for a kill) and I can't tell you the last time that I lost the mini-game.

The pirate will generally announce hes going to interdict you with a line such as "With that haul I can't believe you got so far". Keep an eye on the scanner and you'll see a ship approaching to line up. In super cruise position the destination say 1-2cm off centre then circle it as you approach. The pirate cannot line up to interdict you. You may get dizzy but you'll keep all your booty.

Thanks Unite. I'll give it a go next time. I know for sure that in the past that technique didn't work for me but it's some time (years) since I've flown a ship that I didn't want to fight in.

Winning the interdiction game is honestly a lot easier.

The other thing to bear in mind is if you think you are going to loose the interdiction then just submit by setting your throttle to 0. If you submit your FSD cools down quickly just like it would if you exit supercruise at a station etc. So submit, 4 pips to the engine, full throttle and boost then quickly engage super cruise again. If you're in a T9 its likely the pirate will catch you and do some damage but it won't be much other than shield damage or minor hull damage. In a fast ship the pirate won't get anywhere near you.

I have avoided plenty of interdictions in t9's and cutters.
And I have only been interdicted by elite level anaconda's since 2016.

I usually win the PVE interdiction mini game missing at times when flying the Cutter. Fighting interdiction while playing in Open results in a different outcome for me I usually HIGH Wake a better choice because your seldom 1 on 1. Heaps of Heavy engineered ships and skilled Pilots in Open Play pending on what part of space your flying in.
