Not really about VR. Not really about review scores. Really about general observations in Elite: Dangerous. Enjoy:

A funny yet well balanced review. He points out the good and the bad, and explains clearly why some people love the game and some people hate it.

Very little game time, but often chatting at work.

Nah I just pretty much love it.

Certain things have sucked sure, early engineering for instance.
But I solved that by merely ignoring the feature until it was adjusted to a better value/work ratio.

Sure a few really annoying bugs.
But after, the game which shall not be named, had a patch that ended up deleting the windows boot.ini file...

Hmm. yeah that was a fun one.

Anyhoo I have always had love for it. but then again I'm a bit weird.
But then again so is probably most people who play this game for more than 50 hours.

Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

Nice review. ED in VR truly is a mind blowing experience. I got this game specifically for VR, set up an entire VR cockpit simulator with a race seat, buttkicker transducer, couple narrow tables on each side with my throttle, stick, and arm rests. It is absolutely amazing... being able to look around your ship, track objects by turning your head, and with the buttkicker I actually feel the landing gear retract, or feel the thump of a nearby ship exploding. All that combined with how detailed and large scale ED is makes for an immersive gaming experience the likes of which I've never come close to. Not by a long shot.

The learning curve and lack of hand holding is very brutal, though. I almost threw in the towel several times, but glad I stuck with it. Once I just accepted that any remotely new task was going to require 20 minutes of google research beforehand, it got much better. Also, accepting that every session isn't going to be pure excitement, that was another big hurdle. It's a completely different approach than traditional gaming, but that's what makes it so special. There's so much that ED has to offer that you just can't find anywhere else.

Having a crap day at work and that certainly made me laugh.

Pretty good and balanced review as well which shows why some like and other dislike the game.

Pretty accurate summary. i play occasionally but I soon get bored. I can't afford VR. I built a PC and made a HOTAS seat in the hope that I'd get back to work and be able to buy a HMD. What I imagined from David Braben's descriptions whilst ED was in it's infancy and what I actually got are poles apart. It really pisses me off. I still come to the forums because I've made good friends. That's it:Elite Forums.

Apart from that, I'm quite happy nowadays x
